I thought that it was a comet at first until I realized it was flashing like a strobe light.

I was amazed. It was moving very quickly through the sky, faster than a plane or helicopter until suddenly it vanished.

A few minutes later I saw an extremely bright light in the sky.

I'm sure everyone on the highway did. It was hovering or moving extremely slow.

I was able to snap two pictures of it and what I have is (I think) a boomerang UFO.

In a recent paper, Arwen Nicholson and Duncan Forgan take the idea a step further by exploring three different scenarios of probe behavior: using standard powered flight, using gravitational slingshot techniques around stars, and hop scotching star-by-star to get the maximum speed boost under slingshot trajectories.

In Arthur C. Clarke's 1972 novel, Rendezvous With Rama, star-hopping aliens are pretty blatant. A giant cylindrical space ark enters the solar system. An astronaut survey team explores its dark, ghostly, interior hibernating city. Humans finally realize that the mothership is not stopping for a visit, but simply using the sun's gravity to get a boot to destinations unknown.

Rama aside, don't look for 'spent' or destroyed probes because visiting robots might definitely go green by not leaving behind any trash from their sorties. They would also have ability to self-repair during long interstellar voyages, and self-replicate with the ultimate 3D printer.

In a sprint across the galaxy a civilization may send out a few probes that would be programmed to choose the next star they travel to according to some decision-making algorithm. Once they reach the new star system, they scan for signs of life, and create a copy of themselves. The parent and child probe each pick a new star to travel to, and the process repeats itself in a geometric progression.

This scenario is compounded by the fact there could very likely be more than one fleet of probes from different extraterrestrial civilizations plying the galaxy. What if they run into each other? A purely sci-fi inspired scenario is where mutated probes abandon their original mission and start to prey on normal probes!

Such an interstellar fox and rabbit chase would greatly increase the exploration time and reduce the number of visits to our solar system, say the researchers. In the new simulation the exploration probes are continuously traveling at maximum speed and constantly dispersing radially across the galaxy. Predators would have a hard time catching their prey.

Equally problematic is the dilemma of how a fleet of probes stays in contact with one another so that they don't duplicate efforts. Light travel delay times would squelch communication, unless superluminal contact has been achieved by something as exotic as quantum entanglement. Then all probes would know exactly where every other probe has been and is heading. Each probe could leave behind an omnidirectional beacon that emits a signal showing the star has been visited. Or probes could deposit a "captain's log" for other probes to readout.

Ultimately the data collected by the entire fleet could be placed into a giant galactic archive. It would be a resource for all interstellar civilizations that are smart enough to find it, enter the correct password, and download survey data on many billions of star systems.

What's sobering is that such probes would be like a swarm of bees buzzing through a field of flowers. They diligently carry out their exploration duties and are oblivious to contacting any native biological intelligence they might encounter.

That is, unless the builders programmed the robots to set up a threshold test of the intelligence and maturity of a native species. If the species passes the test they are allowed to communicate with the interstellar probe.

Is Your Ufo Running

This just makes me sad. I was reading up on recent UFO news today and happened upon a site for a UFO research organization that I had never heard of before. I'm not going to share the organization's name, for reasons that will become clear, but I can give you a hint: It has the letter U in it.

Looking over their site, I started reading the catalog of the latest reported sightings, and I was struck by something: a hell of a lot of people report UFO sightings every day. Not just on this site, but on a lot of others as well. I follow a UFO reporting Twitter account and some days they tweet more than Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry combined.

So, if hundreds and hundreds of people each month report UFO sightings to a multitude of sites like this one, that means there must be many hundreds more who choose not to report their sightings because they're afraid someone like me will blog about them, and many hundreds more who would report their sightings if they only knew how to do it.

But that's not the sad part. That's actually the really quite amazing part, and something I will need to write more about at another time. Because now I want to write about the sad part. Scrolling down the very, very long list of UFO sighting reports on this site, I kept running across messages from the director of the organization scolding people for making prank phone calls to the UFO hotline. Just read this plaintive note and you'll understand why I'm sad:

"The flood of prank calls we have been receiving goes unabated, despite our efforts to reason with the inconsiderate dolts who seem amused by this nonsense. We recently received in excess of 60 prank calls during a 16-hour period, many of them from the same group of individuals in Utah. The volume of calls now takes up, we estimate, the majority of our time, and it is threatening to cause us to have to end our policy of either answering, or returning, all telephone calls placed to the UFO Hotline.

A few frustrating weeks later, this was posted:

"NEW HOTLINE POLICIES - Because the steady stream of pranks and obscene telephone calls has not abated, we are considering a change in our policy regarding staffing of the Hotline. On a typical day, 50-80 percent of the calls we receive are hoaxes and pranks, more often than not, accompanied by some of the worst profanity a person could imagine. This situation is having a deleterious effect on the Director, and we are going to have to fight back..."

Hells Bells. Hoaxes? Pranks? Profanities? What is wrong with these young hoodlums? Who are these inconsiderate dolts and why are they tying up UFO hotlines with their juvenile pranks and japes? Don't they realize they are interfering with important UFO research? And driving the Director to distraction?

I can't believe I have to say this, but please do not make prank calls to UFO hotlines! And please do not use profanities. Unless they are an integral part of your sighting report. It's quite common to say "Holy
!" or "Holy
!" or even "Holy
ing
!" when encountering a UFO, and we want your report to be as accurate as possible.

Otherwise, keep it clean, bub.

So long Brian: I heard your program last night (Rense) nonstop the GCN Muddle discussing sightings. I would nearing to add mine to the mix.

October 1999, Independence, Missouri (Kansas Town USA ) something like 22:30. We had been to a baseball mine at the Royal's Stadium. Our places gave us a elegant viewpoint of the auditorium as well as an exquisite sky. I looked out inwards the massive lifelessness and "said" OK, any UFOs out there? I'd nearing to see you. Emptiness. Forgot about it. Returned to my in laws dwelling.

Myself and my mother-in-law got out of the car on the driveway and my partner was pulling the car inwards the garage. My mother-in-law walked meeting place. I turned and looked up to the sky. It was a very gloomy sky. I was looking northeast for instance I spotted what I thought was a mass of geese whose wings were shimmering the lights of the metropolitan, praising of glistening. But as it came closer and overhead I realized I was seeing a "UFO". In retrospect I bargain it was eminent but at the time I didn't significantly put a obesity to it. As it came over me I may perhaps positive see the below. It was lined in huge round orange lights; in fact the lights set the edge of the go wrong shape. They all appeared to be echoingly immersed inwards the underbelly. Near was an vigor swathe swirling reveal the craft (ionizing radiation?) and I may perhaps seek the hum of an electrical transformer. As it voted for by it left. Having the status of I realized as it went inwards the distance was that the decline of the lights inwards the craft in fact made the black person invisible unless you were clearly under it. Categorical time, couldn't abide been longer than 70 seconds from first sight to last.

Have you had any aligned sightings reported to you? Enormously the transformer okay and immersed lighting? I haven't found any.

UFO SIGHTING IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA ON SEPTEMBER 1ST 2013 - BLACK MASS MOVING ACROSS SKY HEADING NE

Wife was standing outside and observed a dark object moving across the sky from the back on our house. I was in the shower at the time and wasn't able to observe the object. She was sure what the object was because she couldn't see any lights of hear sound. We do live West of the airport and a lot of planes fly over, but this object was dark with zero lights and sound. She said that it was a dark blimp looking object moving from the South and heading Northeast across the sky. It didn't have any lights or windows that she could see. The object moved out of sight behind trees that are located to the North of my property.
