There Are Places I Remember

The following is a catalog of the haunted or mysterious places I have visited and sometimes investigated (to one degree or another). Most yielded no results in the short time I was on-site but for those that presented something inexplicable I have included short descriptions of my experience. JC Penney at Midland Park Mall in Midland, TX - Built 1980 - Noises have been heard by workers and an overnight guard, including whispers and clicking of woman's heels; the sound of someone walking on the catwalk where tires were once stored in the old automotive center. There have also been the sounds of falling or crashing items in the housewares department and the digital time clock "beeps" by itself when no one but the night guard has been there. I personally witnessed the sound of items on clothing racks being shuffled when no one was present. Kinetic manifestations include shoeboxes in the stockroom falling from the shelves where they once rested securely and, after hearing the sound of breaking glass, I turned to discover a dish, which had been resting flat upon a table, broken in half for no apparent reason. Many of the workers I interviewed were unaware of corroborative testimonies until this investigation, which implies that little to no confabulation has occurred to perpetuate these tales. Stanton, TX: Once St. Joseph's Convent, this historic stucture was built in 1885 by Carmelite Monks. It is said that a possessed nun killed several children here, though that's likely just a colorful legend. The nun haunts the convent and the cemetery. Crying children, Lights seen turning off and on, and a priest who hung himself have all been reported, as well as the sound of weeping nuns. The convent and an academy were abandoned in 1938 when a tornado blew through. All that remains are the dormitory, ruins of other buildings, and the cemetery.Badlands Hotel, Lajitas, TX--The Badlands Hotel at the Lajitas Resort located in the remote environs of the Big Bend park system (the least visited in the US) is said to be haunted by a scene of domestic unrest that turned deadly. Strange noises and the apparition of a battered woman have been witnessed. The resort was once an exclusive, 5-star retreat with its own airport for those who could afford to fly themselves in to experience a unique golfing experience on the Rio Grande. Sadly, I paid those rates. Had I known then that it would, in a few years, become a state-run resort that offered far cheaper rates, I may have waited. Among the things one could do when it was a first class resort was to join the archaelogical excavation of both historic and pre-columbian sites that abound.Terlingua Ghost Town, TX--Near Lajitas is this crumbling ghost town that has been the site of several eerie encounters. Most of the buildings are adobe with the exception of the church, which is built of stone. The cemetery has twenty graves, including several infants who died in the harsh conditions here.Museum of the Southwest - Midland, TX - One-time mansion haunted by the ghost of its former owner.Alamo Street Theater and Restaurant - San Antonio, TX - Haunted by several unknown spirits, including "Little Eddie" and Margaret Gething (singer).Spanish Governor's Palace - San Antonio, TX - Haunted by the spirit of a girl who drowned in a well. Unexplained voices, lights turning off and footsteps.Mision San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo)- San Antonio, TX - Est. 1718. Phantom re-enactments of the famous Battle at the Alamo occur as well as soldiers, emerging from the walls at night. Ghostly monks have been witnessed as well. A nightly watch of the walls where the ghosts were said to emerge was conducted with no noticeable activity.The Menger Hotel - San Antonio, TX - Oldest hotel in San Antonio overlooks the Alamo. Haunted by the ghost of a maid and a judge. Teddy Roosevelt recruited his "Rough Riders" in the Menger's bar. Next door is the Alamo. Many claim to see the spirits of Soldiers emerging from its walls at night. My suite overlooked the Alamo and so I had a perfect vantage from which to surveil that location. But several vigils of both the hotel and the mission yielded little of interest.River Center Mall - San Antonio, TX - To the north of the Menger is the Alamo; to the south is the River Center Mall, all of which was once the battleground for that tragic conflict. Some say those men's ghostly cries can still be heard in this mall.The Missions of San Francisco, San Juan Capistrano and San Jacinto along "Mission Trail" South of San Antonio, TX - Ghostly chanting and knocking has been heard and the apparitions of padres and Indians have been seen.La Villita (The Little Village)- San Antonio, TX - The old village of San Antonio is preserved and the historic buildings (many from territorial times) house art galleries and gift shops. The Chamade Jewelry store (504 Villita St) has witnessed spontaneous kinetic manifestations (objects moving of their own accord), arguing voices, cold spots and a woman in an apron. The River Art Gallery is home to a "Woman in White." The Starving Artist's Gallery has experienced shadows, objects moving, and a woman in nineteenth century attire. La Villita house, built in 1864 by Cirius Gissi, is home to the spirit of a little girl.Marfa Lights - South, Southeast of Marfa, TX - Lights appear in the desert southeast of town without explanation. When I visited this spot, I saw only the lights from distant ranch houses, radio towers, and cars coming down the Chinati Mountains.Monahans Sand Hills State Park - Monahans, TX - The visitor's center, which sits atop a Native American burial site, is said to house the following phenomena: doors slamming, shadows and phantom shrieks, all of unknown origin. I was unable to detect any phenomena and the attendant on duty was unaware of said tales.Lake Worth - Lake Worth, TX - This lake, between Lake Worth and Fort Worth, was the scene in the late sixties of the Lake Worth Monster sightings. A white, Bigfoot-like creature had been seen by locals. At the time this event transpired, this area may have been more wild but these days, the lake is a popular spot and home, industrial complexes and urban centers nearly surround the area.Science Building - Odessa College - Haunted by the ghost of a student, male. Apparition has been seen but usually only "sensed" in a shadowy manner. A few visits were made without results and few witnesses could be found to corroborate the legend.Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde, CO--the ghosts of Anasazi cliff dwellers are said to still perform sacred ceremonies here in this city built into the canyon wall.Sego Canyon, UT--Aside from a cool ghost town, the canyon is also home to mysterious petroglyphs and pictograms that some believe depict visitors from other worlds.Tucson, AZ: Haunted Hotel Congress and San Xavier MissionTombstone, AZ: Bird Cage Theater, Wells Fargo Bldg.The Lodge at Cloudcroft - Cloudcroft, NM - Haunted by "Rebecca," a beautiful maid killed in a rage by a jealous logger.Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe, NM: "Miraculous" staircase built by an unknown carpenter who just showed up to build the spiral staircase without a central support and not a single nail or screw.Roswell, NM - Do I really need to give a description? It's like the Mecca for UFOlogists.Trinity site is where the first above ground explosion of an atomic weapon was done. It is located in the vast emptiness of New Mexico's Malpais (Sp. for bad country) region. The site is only open twice a year to visitors, ostensibly due to the radioactivity that can still be detected there. I wonder what sort of mutated 1950s B-movie cryptids can be found in its vicinity?The vast White Sands of New Mexico have a history of legends, including those similiar to the story made up about Beaver Sands in the Oklahoma panhandle--perhaps it was the inspiration. It's proximity to nuclear test sites and missile ranges means the place has seen plenty of UFO-related activity too.The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs: Said to be haunted by the ghosts of those who died during a fire. However, no one actually died in this referenced fire. But workers and guests alike have all reported multiple sightings and unexplained events. So who haunts this gracious resort? I could have cared less. They gave us a gorgeous suite overlooking the mountains and golf course. Ghosts, schmosts--it's room service time.Hotel Boulderado - Boulder, CO - Purportedly haunted by several spirits.The Stanley Hotel - Estes Park, CO - Steven King and its famous hauntings aside, the only thing that spooked me during my visit to the Stanley was the rude, inattentive staff. Good thing I have checked this from my list of places to visit because I doubt I will ever stay there again.Mackey Auditorium, U. of CO - Boulder, CO - Legend states a woman was murdered by a maintenance worker and that her ghost now roams the auditorium nightly.Pikes Peak, CO - Along the highway leading up the mountain, is a "Bigfoot Crossing" sign, erected by the Park after a rash of sightings occurred some years back. Old House, Black Hawk, CO--An abandoned house dating back to the late 1800s. I thought I was alone in this creepy old place when I stumbled upon a couple of paranormal investigators. LOL! I didn't know the place was supposed to be haunted. I just like taking pictures of abandoned places.The Trace - Lavonia, GA - This hotel, which was constructed in the antebellum style is purportedly haunted by the original home's owners."Lost Church" - Muskogee Co, OK - One room, ramshackle church purportedly built in 1927 but shows signs of massive renovation in the 60s or 70s. A few pews remain but not much else. I experienced nothing here but my associate claimed to feel a presence leaning against her leg, as if a smile child was resting there. Without having known this, she later learned a similiar experience was reported by another visitor to the church.Boggy Depot State Park, Oklahoma--Home to bigfoot reports and a haunted cemetery. When I visited, paranormal investigators from Texas had just captured EVP of a little girl's voice near the grave a young girl.Witch's Lake, Oklahoma city, OK--Witchy legends abound here, but none have a ring of truth. However, so very real tragedies took place over the years and might account for reported activity.Goodrich UMC - Norman, OK - A matriarchal parishioner still haunts this church. She has been witnessed by multiple individuals, mostly in the evenings. I never saw her myself but I know several who have and trust their judgement in this matter.The offices of the State Capital newspaper in Guthrie, OK are said to be haunted.St. Joseph's Catholic Orphanage/Cemetery - Oklahoma City, OKSCU library - Oklahoma City, OK -- shadowy figures and apparitions reported by reliable witnesses when the building was vacant.Alleyway between Kentucky and Indiana / 9th and 10th streets - Oklahoma City, OK - This is where I saw the "Grey Lady" as described in my book.Overholser Mansion - Oklahoma City, OK -- The vague form of a woman in a light colored dress spotted, phantom music heard, and a unexplained 'touch'.Heavener Runestone State Park, Heavener, OK--Did ancient Norse explorers visit Oklahoma? That's the mystery that remains etched in stone here.Spiro Mounds, Spiro, OK--ancient Native American burial and ceremonial mounds with a few ghostly sightings to boot.Territorial Governors House, Guthrie, OK--The wife of the first territorial governor died here and haunts it still, it seems.Fort Sill - Fort Sill, OK--Ghost stories abound here. Some I will share in SS2.Stone Lion Inn - Guthrie, OK -- Another establishment where I felt an unwelcoming presence, namely from the proprietor. Gilcrease House - Tulsa, OKThe Skirvin Hotel - Oklahoma City, OK -- I became terribly frightened by the bill. Ch-ching!The Cate Center, U. of OK - Norman, OKAvalon Theater/Tulsa Little Theater - Tulsa, OK -- Not an orb fan, but I did capture one oddly enough in the exact spot where "George" appears in the 3rd row.County Line BBQ - Oklahoma City, OKWichita Mountains--Legends of Spanish miners, Mexican Gold, and Outlaw Treasure meet up with mysterious beasts and tragic ghosts in these myth-filled mountains.Ouachita National Forest / Southeastern Oklahoma (replete with Bigfoot sightings) -- I got bit by bugs if that counts.Brown Springs Cemetery - Brown Springs, OK - This is the cemetery where I received the strange thermal readings, as I describe in the section on Brown Springs.An old Masonic Temple in El Reno, part of a rambling warren of rooms in the historic downtown. Mysterious cold spots and disembodied voices have been reported.The old art deco Mercy hospital in Oklahoma City was said to be haunted by a nurse and several patients.Old church on N. Classen in OKC, which has been several clubs (Infinity, Purgatory) over the past decade. Some claim to have heard phantom sounds.Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA--many a suicide from this bridge and apparently their spirits stick around to prove it.Alcatraz, San Francisco, CA--Who DOESN'T haunt this famous prison. I never saw anything, but you can just feel something about this place. Very sad and a little angry.Marin County, CA--home to towering Redwood forests and Bigfoot sightings.Boyington Oak in Mobile, AL--A wrongfully convicted man announced at his execution that, in proof of his innocence, an oak would arise from his grave....Oakleigh Mansion--Mobile, AL--It's been said that the beautiful front parlor room is haunted by a female ghost. There have also been reports of poltergeist-like activity around the mansion. Some of the activity includes eerie disembodied voices, phantom furniture that reportedly moves on its own and creepy shadow figures.Mobile's Braggs-Mitchell House, haunted by the ghost of a young woman.USS Alabama, in Mobile Bay, is said to be haunted. The ghosts of men killed in a gun turret still walk the old decks.Ft. Gaines on Dauphin Island near Mobile, AL. Famed for the man who said "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!" and also for phantom soldiers who still stand guard.Church Street Cemetery in Mobile, AL -- home to both the Boyington Oak and the famous internet meme of a couple years back, the Mobile Leprechaun. While the story was laughed at in the media, one has to wonder just what they saw.El Convento Hotel - San Juan, PR - This one-time Carmelite convent is now a hotel in the heart of Old San Juan. Said to be haunted by a grieving Spanish woman named Do~na Ana. Both she and spectral nuns have been seen.Arecibo Radio Telescope--Not far from Puerto Rico's north-central coastal town of Arecibo lies the eponymous radio telescope, famed as much for its connections to extraterrestrial contact as for its contributions to science.El Morro and Fuerte San Geronimo - San Juan, PR - Revenants of spectral battles cling to these ancient Spanish fortresses. I have yet to witness the supernatural at El Morro but I certainly felt the weight of time. I enjoyed exploring San Geronimo more because I was the only one there. This smaller, far less well known fort guards the mouth of the lagoon in Condado. It isn't a tourist attraction like the others and sits neglected next to the Hilton Caribe hotel. Ironic: So much money and so little spent to restore the island's history.Caribbean National Forest ("EL YUNQUE") - the birth place of the legend of the Chupacabra and tales of UFO's. I can't say I have witnessed either and it's only a 30 minute drive from my home. In fact, I can look outside my window and see the towering peak of El Yunque mtn but sadly never any lights. Teatro Tapia, San Juan, PR-- Across from Plaza Colon, is haunted by the spirits of past performers as well as patrons.Tibes Ceremonial Park near Ponce, PR--Ancient ceremonial plazas and villages where some claim to hear ghostly drumming and chanting late a night.Chase Vault, Christ Church Parish Church Cemetery, Oistins, Barbados - famed for its mysterious "moving" coffins, this vault has captured imaginations for 200 years. Some claim the unusual happenings never transpired; they were a Masonic hoax.St. Kitt's Brimstone Hill Fortress's No. 4 Barracks are also known as the "Jumbie Barracks," after the Creole word for ghost, as they are said to be haunted by the spirits of colonial soldiers.Trinidad's Richmond Great House is a restored sugar plantation house dating back to 1766. It is rumored that one of the rooms is haunted by the ghost of the original owner's wife.Cathedral Santa Maria - Valencia, Espana - home to one of the reported "Holy Grail" chalices.Gaudi's famous Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona is filled with enigmatic, DaVinci Code-esque symbols.Spain's Canary Islands are home to the enigmatic Pir'amides de G"u'imar, a collection of plazas and step pyramids built by persons unknown. The mystery has intrigued the likes of Thor Heyerdahl.Sao Miguel in the Azores is home to many UFO sightings.Atlas Mountains, Morocco--Locals tell legends of little people that dwell in the mountains.Colloseum, Rome, Italy--Witnesses have reported residual phenomena, including the sounds of battling gladiators, roaring crows and some claim to have glimpsed apparitions. Pantheon, Rome, Italy--The ghost of Italy's King Umberto I, who is buried in the pagan-temple-cum-church has been reported on several occasions.Pont Marie, Paris, France--The cheating wife of a WWII French soldier threw herself from this bridge after he left her. She relieves the experience to this day.Eiffel Tower, Paris, France--Another love story turned tragic when a spurned lover threw his beloved from the top. Her phantom shouts of "NO!" and then a blood-chilling scream have been heard now and then.Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, France--Some say the gargoyles come alive!Mont St. Michele, Normandy, France--Witnesses speak of having glimpsed phantom monks and time slips that reveal the sights and sounds of battles from WWII and the Middle Ages.Amsterdam's Dam Square, home to witch burnings of the Spanish Inquisition.Amsterdam's Montelbaan Tower is home to a family of ghosts who once a year re-enact their terribly unsuccessful attempt to flee to the the tower for protection from an invading force.Haunted Dover Castle sits high atop the famed white cliffs of Dover. Nearby are an ancient Saxon church and a Roman lighthouse--both haunted as well.The London Stone, on Cannon Street, is said to hold the city's fate; should it be removed, the city would fall.Dating to the 1690s, London's George Inn is a haunted hotspot that has been featured in works by Charles Dickens and others. Ghosts of ancient cavaliers and a more recent owner are said to haunt the pile, the latter wreaking havoc with electrical systems.The Tower of London at night is a powerfully creepy place. I was fortunate enough to witness the Key Ceremony, a lantern lit procession of Beefeaters who dramatically lock up the Tower at night. Countless apparitions and mysterious phenomena have occurred here over the centuries.In the English county of Kent, Leeds castle has stood for centuries. Once home to royalty, it is now a museum. But some say a spectral black hound still haunts its environs, a harbinger of doom.

LONDON - A British hacker whose extradition to face charges of accessing nearly 100 U.S. government computers in a quest for UFOs was halted on grounds he might harm himself will not be tried in Britain, the prosecution office said on Friday.

Gary McKinnon, 46, who suffers from Aspergers Syndrome, has admitted hacking into Pentagon and NASA computers under the pseudonym "Solo", saying he was looking for evidence of flying saucers and other extraterrestrial activity.

He has been fighting extradition since police arrested him in 2005 and Home Secretary Theresa May blocked his extradition in October because of the high risk he could kill himself. She referred the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to rule if he should be tried at home.

The CPS said on Friday the chances of a conviction were "not high," and cited logistical difficulties in pursuing a case in England and Wales such as bringing over witnesses and evidence from the United States....

Ufo Enthusiasts React To Cia Disclosure On Area 51

The existence of Area 51, also known as Dreamland and Groom Lake, has been common knowledge for a long time know, and even the government has vaguely acknowledged that the base existed. But now some recently released documents by the CIA confirm its existence. But the documents only state that the base was used to test secret spy aircraft, and not to reverse engineer UFOs. "Watch out! He's got his probe!" The man who put Area 51 on the UFO map is not impressed by newly declassified CIA documents that acknowledge the existence of the facility but say it was used to test U-2 spy planes - not flying saucers. "Everybody has known that for 25 years or so," said Bob Lazar, who came forward in 1989 with a tale of government scientists tinkering with alien spacecraft at a military base in the Nevada desert. "Tell us something we don't know." A controversial figure even in the UFO community, Lazar claimed that as a government scientist he was taken to Area 51 near Groom Lake and then put to work at a facility called S4 about 15 miles south. By his account, flying discs powered by anti-matter reactors with seats too small for humans were being tested at S4 - reverse-engineered by the U.S. to create its own futuristic technology. Although his story was ridiculed by skeptics, it turned Area 51 into a magnet for tourists, ufologists and conspiracy theorists. The government had little to say about Area 51 until the release of a 20-year-old CIA history made public through a Freedom of Information request filed by George Washington University's National Security Archive back in 2005 and approved in June. The document says the facility, which served as a gunnery range during World War II, was transformed into a test and training site for the U-2s and its successors, the Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, the D-21 Tagboard and even the F-117 stealth fighter. A mock alien autopsy at the Area 51 exhibit at the Alien Zone in Roswell, N.M., in December 2006. The history makes no mention of little green men, spaceships or anything else that's out of this world. Lazar, who said he now runs a private consulting firm and wants nothing to do with UFO enthusiasts, isn't surprised - saying all the extraterrestrial work went on at S4. "That's a minuscule baby step forward," Lazar said of the Area 51 disclosures. "Maybe a decade from now they'll acknowledge there's an S4." Richard Boylan, who claims to have had encounters with "star visitors" along Nevada's so-called Extraterrestrial Highway 375, said he had to "stifle a yawn" when he heard the CIA had finally 'fessed up that Area 51 is an actual place. After all, he said, he infiltrated the base and saw with his own eyes spacecraft being tested and flown and friendly visitors from outer space arriving to work with government scientists - activities that he believes are being covered up by a "shadow government." "They say Area 51 is real? Duh!" he said. "That's not even one cent on the dollar of what the government knows and should be admitting to." But others welcomed the CIA confirmation, limited as it was. "It makes you feel a little bit better that not everybody is crazy," said Dirk Vander Ploeg, publisher of UFO Digest. The belated acknowledgment is a reminder that the government is good at keeping secrets, he said. "It makes you think if they have all this new aircraft and all this stealth technology, what else do they have out there? What else haven't they told us." Alejandro Rojas, co-organizer of the International UFO Congress and an editor of Open Minds Magazine, said now that Area 51 is no longer being redacted from CIA documents, future Freedom of Information requests may yield more revelations. And it might lend credence to other out-there theories. "Once it got this association with aliens and UFOs, a lot of people doubted Area 51 even existed," said Rojas, who added that he is "agnostic" on the question of whether ET research was done at the site. "There are people now going, 'Oh, it really does exist!' I hope it does demonstrate that a lot of what UFO researchers are saying is credible." Bob Lazar, while always an interesting figure, has proven to be controversial at best. The CIA really has't said anything that we already didn't know. Ultimately, this is just another in a long line of "revelations" by the government that UFO enthusiasts are going to pounce on as evidence for the existence of UFOs, and the skeptics will continue to use as ammunition against the existence of UFOs. Saying that the moon is made of green cheese doesn't make it true, even if one repeats that claim over and over, hundreds of times, or finds a small band of like-minded believers who parrot the claim.

It's not entirely clear why James Carlson continues to post countless comments online, denying the existence of UFO reports during the Echo Flight missile shutdown incident at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, on March 16, 1967, in the face of witness testimony to the contrary-including from one of the missile launch officers present that day.

Carlson knows about the tape recorded conversation (see below) between myself and now-retired Col. Walter Figel, the deputy missile commander at Echo during the incident, in which he told me that he had indeed received a radio call from a security guard at one of the Echo missile silos, saying that he was observing "a large, round object" hovering "directly over the site."

Figel also confirmed that he had, in response to the call, sent out two Security Alert Teams to investigate the report and that at least one of them confirmed seeing the object hovering over the missile silo. Figel also said that he and James' father, Captain Eric Carlson, had been debriefed back at Malmstrom and told not to talk about the incident.

While my recorded conversations with Col. Figel took place between 2008 and 2010, he had made nearly identical statements in another taped phone conversation,(see below) with former Minuteman missile launch officer Bob Salas, in 1996.

There are other U.S. Air Force veterans who have also gone on the record about a UFO involvement in the Echo Flight incident, as well as a Boeing Corporation engineer, Robert Kaminski, whose job it was to find out why the missiles malfunctioned.

In 1997, in a letter to researcher Jim Klotz, Kaminski wrote that, "There were no significant failures, engineering data or findings that would explain how ten missiles were knocked off alert. In other words there was no technical explanation that could explain the event."

Kaminski also wrote, "Meanwhile I was contacted by our representative at OOAMA [Office, Ogden Air Material Area], Don Peterson, and told by him that the incident was reported as being a UFO event-that a UFO was seen by some airmen over the Launch Control Facility at the time E-Flight went down."

Actually, the large round object sighted by the missile guard and reported to launch officer Lt. Walter Figel, had been hovering over one of the Echo missile silos, not the launch control facility itself. Nevertheless, Boeing engineer Kaminski's revealing testimony essentially confirms Figel's account of a UFO-presence during the incident.

Of course, if James Carlson were ever to admit that Kaminski's letter is important, or that Figel's tape recorded statements to me and Bob Salas do indeed contradict his father's now-discredited claim that there were no UFOs reported at Echo Flight, he would in effect be admitting that he has been making a complete fool of himself online for the past several years, by championing his dad's untenable position and, in doing so, viciously insulting the other veterans and researchers who dare challenge it.

This is one reason why Carlson will never, in his many online rants about Echo Flight, provide a link to the tape recorded admissions by Col. Figel that are available online.

After all, one can hear Figel tell me that, while he was skeptical of the UFO report he received from the security guard, it nevertheless did indeed occur. Figel also says, clearly on the tape, that while "he" thought the guard might be joking, that individual's demeanor was calm and businesslike. "He seemed to be serious and I wasn't taking him seriously," Figel told me.

When I posted the transcript of this conversation-excerpt in 2008, James Carlson doubted it's accuracy and chided me to post the actual tape recording. When I eventually did, Carlson then claimed that I had doctored it to make it prove my points. All challenges by me, to have a team of audio experts examine the tape-to verify that it is pristine and unaltered-have been ignored by Carlson and his supporters. Of course, they would have to pay for that expensive analysis so, it seems, they are not prepared to put some money where their skeptical mouths are.

Another reason James Carlson does not want others to listen to my tape recorded conversations with Col. Figel is because he refutes Carlson's claims, calling them "off-base". Figel also says that Carlson "has an ax to grind," something that James certainly does not want others to hear-given that Carlson incessantly cites Figel as someone who supports his own position. Regardless, James' relentless hate campaign is quite obvious to anyone who reads his breathless tirades against me and Bob Salas.

Even Carlson's handful of supporters have urged him to tone it down, given the manic, often hysterical tone of his blog comment postings in which he wildly attacks anyone who supports the notion of a UFO presence at Echo Flight during the shutdown incident. Other, unaffiliated readers of his rants-who have no strong opinion about the case, one way or the other-have called him a "nut", "wacko", "fruitcake" and the like.

Years ago I myself accused James Carlson of "foaming at the mouth". However, that was before I learned that he had been medically discharged from the U.S. Navy due to a diagnosis of epilepsy. One symptom sometimes exhibited during epileptic "fits" is indeed a frothing at the lips during the seizures. Once I had James' medical situation brought to my attention, I never again used that unkind characterization of his online outbursts.

Nevertheless, James' usually bizarre, over-the-top tirades against me and Bob Salas-he has called us "liars and frauds" countless times-raises the issue of his state of mind. When I spoke with his father Eric, in October 2008, he continued denying that UFOs had been reported at Echo Flight, however, when I asked why his son was so out of control in his online posts, Eric responded, "James has some problems."

That same month, in a phone conversation with an associate of mine, Eric told him that he was concerned that James would "have a nervous breakdown." (I am willing to testify under oath in a court of law that the elder Carlson's comment to me was exactly as I have portrayed here, and that I have accurately related the other conversation as it was presented to me.)

So, does James Carlson incessantly lie about the facts relating to the UFO events at Malmstrom Air Force Base because he is psychologically unbalanced, or is it just due to his complete lack of ethics? Or both?

Regardless, the questions remain: Why is James Carlson so unwilling (or perhaps unable) to accept the fact that his father misled him when he said that there were no UFO reports at Echo Flight at the time of the mysterious, full-flight missile shutdown? Why does James continue to deny or, in some posts, twist Col. Figel's candid, taped remarks to me and Bob Salas?

Similarly, why does Carlson repeatedly lie about Salas' former missile commander, Col. Frederick Meiwald, who has made emphatic remarks supportive of Salas? In 2011, Meiwald told me during a taped conversation (see below) that UFOs were indeed present at a different flight-Oscar-when those missiles malfunctioned eight days after the Echo incident.

Although Meiwald had been on a rest break in the launch capsule when the ICBMs began "dropping off alert status", once awoken by Salas, he witnessed most if not all of the missiles malfunctioning.

Meiwald also confirmed that moments later, in response to triggered alarms at one of the silos, Salas had dispatched a two-man Security Alert Team to the site. Those men, said Meiwald, saw "a bright, flying object at low-level." near the missile silo and immediately fled back to the Oscar Launch Control Facility. One man was so distraught that he had to be transported to the base hospital before completing his shift.

James Carlson has for years loudly proclaimed that Salas was lying when he said that he had witnessed a UFO-related missile shutdown at Malmstrom in 1967. True, until Salas located Meiwald in 1996, he couldn't remember the designation of the flight and thought that he might have been at Echo or November.

Nevertheless, by the time Carlson started his public vendetta against Salas in the late 1990s, Col. Meiwald had already discussed the UFO-related events at "Oscar" Flight with Salas during a taped telephone conversation (see below). Meiwald later wrote him a follow-up letter (see below) containing more details.

Fortunately, James Carlson has a relatively small audience, even though he has posted hundreds of comments about these topics at various websites over time. Unfortunately, his hard core supporters, whose strong anti-UFO biases apparently allow them to endorse a delusional (or, perhaps, merely dishonest) person's baseless charges, keep egging him on, rather than urging him to seek the help he obviously needs.

Now, in the wake of Bob Salas' recent revelation about having had an apparent UFO abduction experience in 1985, the usual critics are gleefully sharpening their knives. Given their blanket rejection of anything UFO-related, Carlson and his crew can be expected to go after Salas with renewed viciousness.

Importantly, six other former U.S. Air Force personnel have provided similar accounts to me in recent years. Those individuals had previously been involved in a nuts-and-bolts UFO incident in one of the nuclear missile fields operated by various Strategic Air Command bases. Then, weeks, months or years later, they allegedly had an experience comparable to the one now being revealed by Bob Salas. In short, his account is not unique.

I will have more to say on this last subject at some point in the future. At the moment, I am still gathering data. While the number of military veterans who have told me of their strange follow-up experiences is quite small, compared with the number who make no such claim, their accounts obviously deserve serious, unbiased investigation.

Ufo Sighting Over Babine Lake British Columbia Event Filmed

I alleged I would post a very intense analysis about the sighting that took relax over Babine Pond at the end of Revered 2011 and was brilliantly visible from Michell Bay, Tachet.

Currently, September 11, 2011 I bunch up to the Houston, British Columbia A&W, drive-thru and positioned an command. One of the manual labor asked if my ears had been scorching the night beforehand as a group of folks were discourse about a UFO sighting on Babine Pond and that "pictures" had been engaged by different personnel of the UFO prove.

I organize not seen any of the photos, and I organize not kid to someone who witnessed this sighting, but I sure would counterpart to pass on to any and all of the folks who watched this unique prove. I am more than up to twirl out and park yourself plus personnel and esteem to continue the photos. This of course in hopes of trying to perform out what this may organize been, if doable.

Abductions And Aliens

The firestorm that was touched off by Budd Hopkins' wife recently has sent ufology into a tizzy. Essentially, his wife, who was with him while he did his investigations and hypnotic regressions, is "whistle-blowing" that he and other abduction researchers have been sloppy and/or unprofessional in many, if not all cases.

Supporters of both sides of the debate have been lining up to add their comments about the current state of abduction research. I'm staying out of it.

Well, until now. Back in 1999, my book "Abductions and Aliens" was published, giving my take on the field at that time. In the book, I was not overly optimistic about how abduction research was going. I had been involved in dozens of abduction cases by that time, and had formed my own theories are to what was really going on.

This is why psychologists are more suited to abduction studies. Researchers often have found that abductees have emotional and psychological problems that may or may not be directly related to their experiences. Some appear to have a history of sexual or domestic abuse, and others exhibit symptoms of stresses within their lives. (It is possible that it is because of such backgrounds that they are "chosen" or otherwise sensitive to abduction-like encounters. It is even possible that lifelong abductions are the cause of the psychosocial problems.) Regardless of the cause and effect, however, an abductee seeking help from a UFO buff is asking for trouble. Simply put, few ufologists have the therapeutic tools and expertise required to properly unravel an abductee's experiences within a framework of personal problems.

ALIEN ABDUCTION SYNDROME (AAS)

I've stopped counting how many people have come to me asking for help or guidance in understanding their abduction experiences. Not only that, I've come to identify the "usual" story:

"I had this dream, well at least I thought it was a dream, that these little creatures were in my room and I could understand them even though they weren't really talking and it hurt when they touched me and then I seemed to be floating somewhere not in my room and they told me some things I couldn't understand and then I was suddenly back in my room. But I think they are still around."

I've read John Mack's epic case study "Abductions" and I tend to see the points of many of his critics. Far from the aliens preparing his clients for some future use and teaching them about ecology and spirituality, I think some of those in his group have problems in dealing with our reality.

Not that that's such a bad thing, mind you.

Now, I'm not a psychologist by training, nor a psychiatrist, so I'm sure my diagnosis is going to draw some flames. But I think that what we have here is something I might call Alien Abduction Syndrome (AAS).

For some reason, certain people appear to think they have been contacted by aliens. This could be because of various contributing factors: dissatisfaction with life; stress; domestic problems; family problems; peer pressure; rape trauma; chemical imbalances; or child abuse. Perhaps any one of these or any combination of them. I believe that thorough studies might help to understand AAS. (It's even possible that aliens are actually doing some abductions, but that's another matter.)

Let me backtrack, however. First of all, I don't think that all people who report such experiences have AAS. Secondly, in most cases, AAS is not a "problem."

The real problem, though, is how to deal with such cases. Most ufologists are woefully inadequate as abduction therapists/counselors. Investigating a nocturnal light and counseling an abductee are two very, very different things. You just don't "file" an abductee case away as you would a daylight disc case. Furthermore, ufologists are not trained as psychologists (generally), though John Musgrave published a paper in the late 1970's or the role of the UFO researcher as a counselor and healer. It was ignored at the time.

However, there's another side to this issue, and more questions. Who is appropriate and/or adequate as a counselor/investigator of abductee cases? What relationship should there be between a clinical psychologist and a UFO researcher?

In the summer of 1981 or '82 I was 11 or 12 years old. We had a relative from Germany visiting, who was lets say was a "higher up" over there. He slept in my room so I was moved in my twin brothers room to sleep, he of course wouldn't give me the bed so I was to sleep on the floor. Well I couldn't sleep. So I got up at I'm guessing around 2am to look out the window to quell my boredom. My view of the sky was obstructed due to the over hang of our house and the neighbors roof. The space machine came soon after I went to the window, within 30 seconds. It came over the neighbors house towards our house and over it heading north. It was massive in size! It moved slowly and silently. It was the size and shape of a football stadium. I only saw the belly of the machine, the lights are still to this day undecidable. The entire thing was lite up and also had intricate lighting shades the same color detailing "instruments", to say it was neon lighting does it no justice. But that is the closest I can come to describing it. The absolute beauty of this machine was amazing. It simply glided over the house and I assume continued on it path north. I was fixed on looking at the object so I don't know if the ground was lite up. I was not scared at all, I was in complete awww, I new it was not from this planet. I told no one, not even my brother for years, back then you just didn't talk about stuff like that. I will always regret not doing more at the time but I was just a kid. I did also check my self at the time to insure I was not dreaming. I did thou do my own interrogation the next day of our company but I found out nothing. I will disclose every thing if I am asked.
