The countdown continues for tonight's launch of the COMMERCIAL RESUPPLY SERVICES-1 (CRS-1) mission is SCHEDULED TO LIFT-OFF on a Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) Falcon 9 rocket on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 8:35 p.m. EDT (0035 GMT Oct. 8) from Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. In addition to the more than 800 pounds (360 kilograms) of supplies, experiments and equipment to support the space station's crew by the CRS-1 flight to the International Space Station, Blue Bell Sundae Ice Cream Cups will provide real-world ice cream for the astonauts and cosmounats aboard the International Space Station (not the freeze-dried souvenir version sold in museum gift shops).

Blue Bell Sundae Ice Cream to ISS

The Dragon spacecraft is equipped with a GENERAL LABORATORY ACTIVE CRYOGENIC ISS EXPERIMENT REFRIGERATOR (GLACIER) used to preserve science samples that require temperatures between minus 301 and 39 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 160 and 4 degrees Celsius) on the way to or from the space station. GLACIER will also carry several Blue Bell Sundae Ice Cream Cups. The vanilla with swirled chocolate sauce ice cream cups are provided by BLUE BELL CREAMERIES, a Texas dairy. The creamery's cups first launched to the orbiting laboratory in 2006 on board the space shuttle Atlantis.
