My wife and I just went out for a walk tonight around our lake in Rancho Santa Margarita, like we normally do. We noticed the night was beautiful and full of stars. Just as we started our walk, I looked up in south-east direction and instantly saw a slow-moving red-orange light that moved slowly in north-west direction, so I thought it was a chopper. I kept looking though, cause it was not looking like a typical chopper with a spotlight at night, and had absolutely no sound. It appeared to be way up higher than choppers would normally fly, probably higher than typical plane path too. Most noticeable thing about it was that the bright red-orange light was flickering/wavering a lot, again, nothing like what you'd see from a chopper. Almost like an optical distortion, not a deliberate pulsating. So it moved slowly for a few seconds, then slowed down to an almost stop, then dimmed, turned into a light much smaller and dark blue/violet color. The disappeared. Literally just a few steps down the lake we saw a family of women with bunch of girls looking up in wonder discussing the same thing. I know for a fact I was not the only one that saw it last night.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: The following is a cut and paste from a recent email I sent to a friend of mine who was curious about my story, so I decided to share it with you. I was around 9 years old living in the West Island of Montreal. I have trouble nailing down the actual year but I can guess around 1970 - 71. I was on the main floor of our 2 storey home watching TV when my mom yelled from the upstairs bathroom to let our dogs out to do their business. I opened the sliding thermo pane doors in the kitchen. After the dogs ran out to the yard, I stepped outside onto the raised concrete patio to wait for them to do their thing. I was on the patio for no more than a few seconds when I looked in the night sky directly above my head. What I saw was a circular object and it was certainly not the moon. It was silent and not moving. If I could describe the size of the object, it would be comparable to holding a silver dollar (or Canadian 1 Loonie) in your fingers tips at arm's length against the sky. I would venture a guess from my days as a novice student pilot that it was probably 1,500 feet overhead. The object was very bright and did not emit light. Actually, the light was contained within the object itself and had a shimmery effect. I watched the object for approximately one minute. I guess I was waiting for it to display some sign that it was a conventional aircraft or some thing that I could identify with as a 9 year old. There was nothing conventional about this object and I knew that intuitively enough to poke my head inside the house and yell upstairs to my mother "quick come downstairs you have to see this thing". My mother would not be taken away from her pre-bedtime routine and yelled something back indicating she was not interested. After my mother's refusal to witness, I went back to my position and continued to observe the object. It remained motionless for another 30-45 seconds. What happened next was mind bending and certainly displayed unconventional characteristics. The object, in the blink of an eye, shot straight up and stopped. It had accelerated upward and then came to a resting state for about 4 or 5 seconds. If you blinked you would have missed it or it was so fast that you might as well have blinked. Going back to my coin comparison, the object was now smaller and comparable to the diameter of a nickel held at arms length in your finger tips, and it was visibly further away. After another 4-5 seconds,the object did it again and shot straight up and came to a stop. Our little spaceship is now the size of say less than half of what is was before and visibly further away from it's prior position. So the object repeated it's accelerated movement after remaining in a motionless state for 4-5 seconds. Then again it pulsed/shot straight upward and when it stopped it was so high in the night sky that it looked like one of the stars. Then, after a few seconds, it just blinked and was gone as if it was a light that had been turned off. I remember much of that night like it just happened. Thank you to the witness for there report. Here is a distant but fairly detailed color view of Saturn's third-largest, third-most-massive and most distant of the major moons, Iapetus. The moon is 1,471 kilometers / 914 miles wide. This view has been enlarged and sharpened. You're seeing the moon's day side here; see the terminator line, or line between light and dark on Iapetus, from about the 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock positions? The Saturn-orbiting Cassini spacecraft captured this view of the moon Iapetus through its Narrow Angle Camera, from a distance of 1 million kilometers / 621,000 miles. This view is looking down onto the far northern latitudes with the north pole of Iapetus visible roughly midway along the demarcation of this large Saturn moon's bright trailing side and darker leading side.

Iapetus is two-toned. Its surface is much darker on the moon's leading side, that is, the side that faces forward as Iapetus moves in orbit around Saturn. It is much brighter on its trailing hemisphere.

Iapetus orbits Saturn at a mean distance of 3.57 million kilometers / 2.22 million miles once every 79.32 days.

Iapetus is "kronesynchronous", in other words keeps the same face turned towards Saturn permanently, just as our own moon, which is "geosynchronous", does toward Earth. Thus we know that, as on Earth's moon, the orbital and rotational periods of Iapetus are the same.

The darkness on Iapetus' leading side is thought to stem from a carbon-rich coating being formed as particles, mostly from Saturn's moon Phoebe (a suspected captured former Kuiper Belt Object), are being swept up.

There is also quite a difference in mean surface temperatures between the leading and trailing sides of Iapetus. The darker leading side (called Cassini Regio by planetary scientists) is warmer. It can warm up to minus 144 Celsius / minus 227 Fahrenheit. Meanwile, the brighter trailing side (Roncevaux Terra) does not get above minus 160 Celsius / minus 256 Fahrenheit.

At the winter poles of Iapetus, temperatures drop to minus 183 Celsius / minus 297 Fahrenheit.

Iapetus is almost certainly mostly ice, with a mean global density of 1.09 grams per cubic centimeter, only just above that of pure ice. There is a little rock, but less than 2% by mass.

One mystery is that the orbit of Iapetus is inclined by 15.43 degrees to Saturn's equator and to the plane of the other major moons of Saturn. pulsing fields, on the other hand, would erase magnetism. That technique is used to erase magnetic tapes and to

"degauss" ships. The author has duplicated most types of radio interference from UFOs with static, magnetic

fields. The most sensitive components of transistor radios are coils in tuned radio-frequency and intermediate-

frequency circuits. The magnetic field modifies the physical property of their ferrite cores. The circuits are thereby

detuned from the selected station. Reception begins to fade at about 350 gauss and is entirely blocked at about 800

gauss. Such fields are moderately strong, being typical for bar magnets. Continued increases in field strength will

shift the tuning to the next station of higher frequency. A radio can be tuned across the whole dial in that manner.

Radios originally set at stations in the upper end of the dial will be driven completely beyond the AM band, where

they can receive navigational signals in Morse code.

Slowly pulsing magnetic fields around UFOs have been suspected to cause agitation or spinning of compasses.

Intuition suggests that sustained rotation of a compass can be produced by a weak magnetic field only if it is pulsed

at a rate approximating the natural resonant frequency of the compass. That point was verified in experiments by the

author in which spin rates of liquid-filled compasses were sustained from 6 to 20 rpm depending upon the strength

of the applied magnetic impulses. Overly strong impulses threw the compass into wild agitation. On February 2,

1973, Captain Peter Telling was piloting a commercial flight in Australia. At first fearing a fire in his starboard

engine, he spotted an intense bluish-white light 7-14 m. in diameter at a distance of 10 m. It paced the airplane for

20 to 25 seconds. His automatic direction finder, gyrocompass, and magnetic compass all went haywire and spun at

12 rpm. The pulse rate of the magnetic field was thus measured to be as slow as 12 rpm = 0.2 sec, or one pulse

every 5 seconds.

sightings and major disturbances of the earth's magnetic field. France maintains a series of research stations

generally located in remote areas to minimize electromagnetic interference. During the fall of 1954 when UFO

sightings were unusually frequent, fifteen events were found in which the exact location and time of the sighting

corresponded with a major disturbance of the magnetic field at the research station. While moderately strong fields

are measured in gauss, very weak fields are measured in gammas, the ration being 1 gamma = 10 gauss. Maximum

disturbances in the vertical component of the field ranged from about 5 gamma to about 80 gamma for distances of

24 to 100 km. The geomagnetic field in France is about 0.454 gauss with a declination of 10 degrees west and a dip

of 60 degrees downward toward the north. Hence, the vertical component would normally be (0.454) sin 60 = 0.393

gauss = 39.300 gamma. The measurements are thus seen to be extremely sensitive, namely on the order of 1 part in

1,000. Five experimental data points clustering around 5 gamma at 85 km. are taken as a baseline. As magnetic

fields diminish from their source inversely as the third power of the distance, Poher's data allow the calculation of

the source strength, or magnetic moment, of the UFO. It is found to be 7.7 x 10 amp meter ! That figure is

phenomenally high compared to current research on super-fields and the hint of advanced technology from unearthly

sources is inescapable. The magnetic field strength at any distance from UFOs can also be calculated from the

scientific measurements. It would be 425 gauss at a distance of 130 m. from a UFO, a typical range at which

electromagnetic effects are observed and consistent with the experimental data on radios.

From the foregoing review of magnetic effects, it appears that magnetic fields from UFOs are static or pulse very

slowly. It is, therefore, unlikely that they could produce significant currents in the body because such induction is

proportional to the rate of change of the field strength. The rate of change of a static field is, of course, nil.

In contrast, direct evidence indicates that pulsed microwaves are a strong candidate. In 1958, a four-year,

comprehensive medical survey of the physiological effects of radar was completed at Lockheed Corporation. Many

employees were routinely exposed to low-intensity radiation during final tests of aircraft radar. Their medical

histories were compared with those of employees who had not been exposed. Despite various minor symptoms, no

pathological changes were observed for occasional exposures up to 13.1 mW/cm in the S- and X-bands having

HE WENT INTO THE REAR GARDEN TO HAVE A CLOSER LOOK AS IT CAME OVER THE TYNE VALLEY, AND COULD SEE A GLOWING OUTLINE OF WHAT HE DESCRIBED AS A COPPERY DOME SHAPE. IT MOVED SLOWLY ALONG THE VALLEY TOWARDS THE RIVER TYNE, THEN CHANGED DIRECTION AND HEADED NORTH.

'I COULD HARDLY BELIEVE WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT. AS IT CAME CLOSER I COULD FEEL THE AIR PULSATING AND WAS AWARE OF OZONE IN THE AIR. THE HAIRS ON MY ARMS STARTED TO BRISTLE. AS I WATCHED THE OBJECT I REMEMBERED THERE WAS SOME FILM LEFT IN MY CAMERA, SO I WENT INTO THE HOUSE TO GET THE CAMERA AND SHOUTED FOR MY DAUGHTER MARY-ANNE TO COME AND SEE THE OBJECT. I TOOK FIVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF IT. THE BRIGHT LIGHT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE DISC SLOWLY GOT BRIGHTER AND IT ACCELERATED AT GREAT SPEED TO THE NORTH.'

PETER'S OBSERVATION TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY TWELVE MINUTES AND HE DESCRIBES THE OBJECT AS BEING LARGER THAN THE FULL MOON. HE HEARD NO SOUND, AND STATES THAT IT WAS A CLEAR, DRY AND MILD NIGHT WITH NO CLOUD COVER. THIS OBJECT WAS ALSO OBSERVED BY FIVE OTHER PEOPLE WEST OF OVINGTON AT ABOUT LL.30 PM ON THE SAME NIGHT.

THE HEXAM COURANT AND EVENING CHRONICLE CARRIED ARTICLES ABOUT THIS SIGHTING AND PHIL MANTLE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THAT PHOTOGRAPHS HAD BEEN TAKEN BY PETER NELSON. I CONTACTED PETER AND HE VERY KINDLY CAME TO SEE ME BRINGING THE NEGATIVES WITH HIM AND THE CAMERA HE HAD USED. HE LEFT THE NEGATIVES WITH ME FOR EXAMINATION. THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE UFO SHOWS A COPPERY DOME SHAPED OBJECT WITH A LIGHT EMANATING FROM UNDERNEATH, AND THE MOON CLEARLY VISIBLE. THE OBJECT SEEN BY THE OTHER WITNESSES IS DESCRIBED BY THEM AS AN ORANGEY YELLOW COLOUR IN TWO PARTS HOVERING ABOVE THE TREES, A FEW MILES WEST OF OVINGTON. THIS SIGHTING WAS AT 11.30PM, AND SEVERAL OF THE WITNESSES SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE.

VISIT FROM THE MILITARY

PETER WAS VISITED IN SEPTEMBER BY TWO MILITARY OFFICIALS, WHO CLAIMED TO BE FROM RAF PRESTWICK. THEY BRIEFLY SHOWED PETER SOME IDENTIFICATION AND ASKED MANY QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO THE OBJECT HE OBSERVED. THEY ALSO ASKED FOR THE NEGATIVES. HOWEVER, I HAD THE NEGATIVES AT THAT TIME AND SO PETER GAVE THEM A COPY OF THE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE UFO. THEY WERE INTERESTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SOUND, MOVEMENT AND HEIGHT OF THE OBJECT AND THE APPROXIMATE DISTANCE FROM WHICH PETER HAD OBSERVED IT. THE MEN SPENT OVER AN HOUR WITH HIM AND THEN WENT DOWN TO THE GOLF COURSE NEARBY, WHERE THEY USED BINOCULARS AND APPEARED TO BE LOOKING AROUND. PETER HAS SINCE TOLD ME THAT BOTH HE AND HIS DAUGHTER FELT THAT THEIR CONVERSATION WAS BEING TAPED.

OTTERBURN ARMY RANGE IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO PETER'S HOME AND HE AND HIS DAUGHTER ARE USED TO SEEING MILITARY ACTIVITY AROUND THE AREA ON A REGULAR BASIS. APPARENTLY THERE IS GOING TO BE A LARGE MILITARY BASE THERE IN THE FUTURE AND THERE HAS BEEN A GREAT DEAL OF OBJECTION TO THIS FROM RESIDENTS IN THE AREA.

SINCE MARCH 24, 1997, RUMORS OF A UFO AIR BATTLE AND A TORNADO CRASH HAVE CIRCULATED IN DERBYSHIRE AND SOUTH YORKSHIRE. ACCORDING TO THE STORY, THE TRIANGULAR UFO APPEARED OVER DRONFIELD, DERBYSHIRE. SIX RAF TORNADO INTERCEPTORS ENGAGED IN AN AIR ATTACK ON THE CRAFT. THE UFO SUPPOSEDLY SHOT DOWN A TORNADO, WHICH CRASHED IN A RESERVOIR NEAR THE HOWDEN MOORS IN DERBYSHIRE. THE UFO THEN FLED INTO SPACE. FOLLOWING THE EXCHANGE OF LETTERS BETWEEN UNDER-SECRETARY SPELLAR AND MRS. JACKSON, BUFORA PRESS OFFICER DAVE CLARKE INTEVIEWED ALAN PATTISON OF MOD'S "UFO DESK" AND HIS DEPUTY, SQUADRON LEADER TOM MANNING OF THE RAF. ACCORDING TO CLARKE, THE MEN "CONFIRMED THE PLANES INVOLVED IN THE INCIDENT WERE TWO TORNADO GR1 STRIKE AIRCRAFT WHICH WERE OPERATING FROM THE BASE AT RAF MARHAM ON A PRE-BOOKED AND PRE-PLANNED LOW-LEVEL TRAINING EXERCISE OVER THE PEAK DISTRICT. THESE TORNADOS WERE THE TYPE USED ON BOMBING MISSIONS IN THE (PERSIAN) GULF WAR AND ARE NOT FIGHTERS THAT WOULD BE SCRAMBLED FOR AN INTERCEPT."

"THEY ALSO ADMITTED THAT OTHER TORNADOS AND INDEED JAGUAR FIGHTERS FROM OTHER NATO BASES TOOK PART IN THE NIGHT-TIME SORTIE, WHICH INCLUDED NIGHT-TIME FLYING AT A MINIMUM 250 FEET ALTITUDE OVER THE MOUNTAINS WEST OF SHEFFIELD." UFO RESEARCHER MAX BURNS HAS CLAIMED THAT THE TRIANGULAR MYSTERY OBJECT WAS TRACKED ON RADAR AT 9:55 P.M. THAT NIGHT BY THE ROYAL SIGNALS UNIT AT THE RAF LINTON-UPON-OUSE BASE, NEAR THE CITY OF YORK. CLARKE STATED, "THE MOD/RAF CURRENT POSITION IS THAT THE TWO SONIC BOOMS RECORDED AT 2132 AND 2206 (9:32 AND 10:06 P.M. BY EDINBURGH) THAT NIGHT REMAIN 'UNEXPLAINED.' THEY CLAIM THE LOW-FLYING EXERCISE WAS OVER FIFTY MINUTES BEFORE THESE SONIC EVENTS WERE RECORDED AND SAY THAT THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THEM AT THE TIME OF THE EXERCISE."

PATTISON AND MANNING STATED, "WE DID NOT CHASE A UFO, AND THERE HAS BEEN NO COVER-UP. WE RESPONDED TO A REQUEST BY THE POLICE TO HELP TO SEARCH FOR A CRASHED AIRCRAFT AND SENT A HELICOPTER FROM RAF LECONFIELD. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE SONIC EVENTS, AND THE WHOLE THING IS A MYSTERY TO US, TOO." CLARKE REVEALED THAT THE AIR-AND-GROUND SEARCH INVOLVED 200 POLICE, FIRE AND MILITARY RESERVE PERSONNEL, WHO COVERED AN AREA OF 40 SQUARE MILES AROUND BOLSTERSTONE, SOUTH YORKSHIRE. THE HELICOPTER FROM RAF LECONFIELD WAS A WESTLAND SEA KING HAS MK 6, WHICH ASSISTED THE WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE HELICOPTER IN THE SEARCH. (SEE THE SHEFFIELD STAR FOR APRIL 4, 1998. SW OBJECT EXPLOSION WITNESSES OWN PERSONAL STATEMENT MR ANDI LLOYD (COASTGUARD OFFICER)

AT 1845 UTC SUNDAY15TH MARCH 1998 AT BRIXHAM IN COUNTY OF DEVON. (LAT/LONG 5033.8N 00330.6W) I WITNESSED THE FOLLOWING.

UPON LEAVING BRIXHAM COASTGUARD STATION WITH MY COLLEAGUE, MR REG HILL I OBSERVED A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT TRAVELLING ACROSS THE SKY ABOVE MY PLACE OF DUTY. THE LIGHT WAS HEADING IN A SOUTH EAST TO NORTHWEST DIRECTION AT ABOUT 1000-1200 FEET. IT WAS LARGE AND VERY BRIGHT AND LASTED FOR 1-2 SECONDS. THERE WAS A FLASH OF EXTREMELY BRIGHT LIGHT AND SIMULTANEOUSLY CRACKLING / EXPLODING SOUND WAS HEARD. THE LIGHT THEN DISAPPEARED.

LOOKING AT THE SKY AFTERWARDS I SAW A MASS OF WHITE VERY DENSE VAPOUR IN THE AREA THE OBJECT WAS LAST SEEN. THE VAPOUR LOOKED LIKE A COMMA IN THE SKY 1000 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL. THE SEMI-CIRCULAR VAPOUR PATTERN WAS ABOUT 30FT HIGH AND 10FT ACROSS. THERE WAS NO VAPOUR TRAIL IN THE DIRECTION FROM WHICH THE OBJECT CAME.

THE WEATHER CONDITIONS OBSERVED BY THE COASTGUARD MET-REPORTING OFFICERS AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT WERE.. THE WIND WAS FROM 350 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS CLOUD COVER WAS NEGLIGIBLE WITH 1/8 COVER OF CIRRUS TYPE CLOUDS AT 20000FT THE VISIBILITY WAS GOOD, IN EXCESS OF 10 MILES AND THE WEATHER WAS FAIR. I CAN OFFER NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT I SAW LAST NIGHT.

ON TUESDAY, JUNE 30, 1998, DAVID A. DUNWORTH, HIS WIFE AND A FRIEND WERE NEAR MOUNTS BAY, IN PENZANCE, CORNWALL, UK WHEN THEY SIGHTED AN UNUSUAL OBJECT IN "THE CLEAR BLUE SKY" AT 9:10 A.M.

"MYSELF, MY WIFE AND A FRIEND OF OURS WITNESSED A SMALL CIRCULAR WHITE OBJECT TRAILING A JET. THE OBJECT WAS ABOUT THE SIZE OF AN O ON OUR KEYBOARD AND APPEARED TO BE CIRCLING AN AIRCRAFT ON ROUTE TO LONDON OR EUROPE," I.E. HEADING EAST.

"THE O-SHAPED OBJECT WAS BRIGHT WHITE IN COLOUR AND MOVED IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE JET (EASTERLY) ABOUT ONE INCH IN AN ARC ABOVE THE TAIL OF THE JET. WE ALL WATCHED AS THE OBJECT SLOWLY CIRCLED THE JET ABOVE THE FUSELAGE. THE JET CONTINUED, PROBABLY UNAWARE OF THEIR COMPANION CIRCLING ABOVE THEM. AS WE WATCHED, THE OBJECT BEGAN TO FADE IN COLOUR AND EVENTUALLY DISAPPEARED ALL TOGETHER, AS IF IT HAD SOMEHOW DISINTEGRATED."

LIGHT PHENOMENON SEEN BY HUNDREDS IN UK

AN UNUSUAL LIGHT PHENOMENON, WHICH RESEMBLED A GIANT LETTER Z, WAS SEEN ON BOTH SIDES OF THE IRISH SEA AFTER 10:30 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JULY 10, 1998.

ACCORDING TO THE BBC REPORT, "A LARGE METEORITE IS BEING BLAMED FOR HUNDREDS OF SIGHTINGS ALONG THE WEST COAST OF BRITAIN FRIDAY EVENING. INITIALLY AUTHORITIES WERE BAFFLED ABOUT THE SOURCE OF THE LIGHTS, WHICH LOOKED LIKE THE LETTER Z OR THE NUMBER 2."

"THROUGHOUT FRIDAY EVENING, POLICE AND COASTGUARDS FROM CORNWALL TO SCOTLAND WERE INUNDATED WITH CALLS FROM PEOPLE WHO SPOTTED THE LIGHT, THOUGH MOST CAME FROM PEOPLE LIVING AROUND THE IRISH SEA."

"COASTGUARDS IN BELFAST SAID THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED DOZENS OF 999 CALLS AND ADMITTED THEY HAD SEEN THE LIGHT IN THE SKY...OVER THE NORTH COAST OF IRELAND. A SPOKESMAN SAID THE LIGHT HAD A LARGE Z SHAPE."

"'IT WAS VERY PROMINENT AND WAS DUE NORTH OF THE (BELFAST) COASTGUARD STATION. WE WERE ABLE TO WATCH IT FROM THE WINDOW. I CAN SAY THAT I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE.'"

"'IT WAS A LARGER SHAPE THAN THE MOON BUT, AS WE WERE UNABLE TO MEASURE THE DISTANCE, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO JUDGE ITS ACTUAL SIZE.'" (EDITOR'S NOTE: IT WAS A FULL MOON FRIDAY NIGHT.)

THE Z-SHAPED LIGHT "APPEARED TO BE MOVING VERY SLOWLY WESTWARDS. 'WHEN WE FIRST SAW THIS OBJECT, IT WAS NOT COMPLETELY DARK (YET). IT WAS HIGHER THAN THE CLOUDS AND OCCASIONALLY IT WAS OBSCURED BY PASSING CLOUDS.'"

"ANOTHER REPORT WAS RECEIVED BY TEESSIDE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL NEAR MIDDLESBROUGH, WHO REPORTED SEEING AN OBJECT RESEMBLING THE LETTER Q IN THE SKY WEST OF THEIR POSITION."

"IN A STATEMENT, THE (UK) DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT SAID, 'THE SIGHTINGS WERE AS FAR APART AS CORNWALL AND THE CLYDE (IN SCOTLAND), WEST OF BELFAST (NORTHERN IRELAND) AND EAST TO LEEDS. RAF FYLINGDALES EARLY WARNING STATION REPORTED NO UNDUE ACTIVITY, AS DID JODRELL BANK. WE CAN ONLY SUMMARISE IT IS SPACE DEBRIS OR A COMET.'"

ON SATURDAY, JULY 11, "AN AIRLINE PILOT WHO LANDED AT EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT" PROVIDED "AN EXPLANATION."

"THE PILOT REPORTED SEEING A LARGE METEORITE ENTERING THE ATMOSPHERE AS HE WAS FLYING FROM THE UK TO FRANCE. HE CLAIMED TO HAVE NOTICED IT BREAKING UP AND LEAVING A LONG TRAIL IN ITS WAKE, WHICH WAS FORCED BY WINDS INTO SHAPES RESEMBLING THE LETTERS." (MANY THANKS TO JOHN HAYES FOR THE BBC REPORT.)

(Editor's Comment: Excuse me, but luminous meteor trails last between five and ten seconds--twenty seconds tops. They do not persist in the sky for over an hour. Whatever this phenomenon was, it was no meteor.)
