PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) - It took four men to wrangle the eight-foot tall, four hundred pound creature and shepard him into his new home. Although this incarnation of the legendary Sasquatch, also commonly referred to as bigfoot, is just a life size replica, the effort to move the motionless monster was Herculean.
"We moved about 40,000 books I think that first move, so that one was definitely a lot tougher," said Jeff Whitehouse, one of the hired hands helping with the move. "That took a long time. This one actually was awkward, but easier to move."
Whitehouse is among a group of guys helping Loren Coleman realize his dream - to open the world's first cryptozoology museum here in the heart of Portland.
"One of the great things about going public here is that all kinds of individuals, youth groups, tourists and other researchers from around the country, can come here on Congress Street and enjoy the fruits of 50 years of research in cryptozoology," said Coleman. "This is going to be a focal point now for the scientific establishment and sharing of information on cryptozoology."
Cryptozoology is the study of hidden animals. Loren Coleman has travel across most of the United States in his research on legendary animals like the abominable snowman and larger-than-life sea creatures like Lake Champlain's Champ. His collection was housed in his home and open to outsiders by appointment only. Now, Coleman wants the public to view his collection and learn about cryptozoology in his new museum.
"Well, there is all kinds of different ridicule and laughter and all of that, but the other part of it is that people are really interested in the nature-based, adventure-based part of cryptozoology, understanding that new species are discovered all the time," said Coleman. "I was very interested to know what was it about the yeti that made some people so skeptical and some people into true believers. I'm somewhere in between."
Coleman's goal is to open his museum November 1st in a space that he will share with a bookstore. He hopes the increased exposure will get people thinking. It already has influenced the men helping him make the move.
"Typically I am known as a bigfoot whisperer, but it is not confirmed," joked Jeff Meuse. "It is a big task, but it is definitely is helping him out." Meuse says after moving thousands of books out of storage for Coleman, the real intriguing items were next to be carted away. "Feejee Mermaid. Bigfoot prints. So much stuff, I mean, hair samples from sasquatches," he said as he listed off just some of the items he and his crew were hauling. "It would be hard pressed to say that all of the stuff that he has for the museum will fit in there."
"He definitely is an interesting character, both Bigfoot and Mr. Coleman," stated Whitehouse. "It is definitely something to consider and think about because there is a lot of space on this Earth that has been uncharted and we just don't know."

Siberian Yeti
As Reported in the news recently, scientists have supposedly found real evidence of the existence of a hairy bipedal creature known as the Siberian Yeti. Researchers are claiming they are 96% sure that the fabled Russian version of the Abominable Snowman lives in the Kemerovo region of Siberia. a group of scientists set out for the remote mountainous area in search of the elusive being. and it didn't take very long for them to issue a statement on the official Kemerovo website stating they had found "footprints, a probable den and various markers that Yetis mark their territory with."
They concluded that the artifacts gave them 96% proof of the existence of Yeti in the Kemerovo region. Some possible Yeti hair samples reportedly found in the region will be analyzed in a laboratory to determine their origin.
The jury is still out on the case but our own Trent "Yetiman" Mullen was on site for a comment. "This doesn't seem to be any more than a group of inexperienced field researchers finding some hair of undetermined origin and calling it Bigfoot hair. there is no proof here that would hold up zoologically. additionally, I can attest personally that there is no way these people could find the lair of the yeti."
Skeptics point out that the area of Siberia that's allegedly home to the yeti legend helps promote tourism. In fact, opening day of the ski season is known as the "Day of the Yeti" -- an attempt to bring in more skiers to the area.

New Bigfoot Research
The Lausanne Museum of Zoology in Switzerland together with prestigious Oxford University said Tuesday, May 22, that they will together use DNA testing to examine organic remains that some claim belong to the beast.
"It's an area that any serious academic ventures into with a deal of trepidation... it's full of eccentric and downright misleading reports," Bryan Sykes at Oxford's Wolfson College told Reuters.
Lausanne has an archive of such organic material assembled by researcher Bernard Heuvelmans, the news agency reported. Heuvelmans sought the yeti for over 50 years until his death in 2001.
"There have been DNA tests done on alleged yetis and other such things but since then the testing techniques, particularly on hair, have improved a lot due to advances in forensic science," Sykes said.
Despite the lack of hard evidence, Bigfoot believers are steadfast in their conviction that somewhere out there lurks a giant hominoid that simply has eluded all efforts to track it down.
"I have been immersed in Sasquatch research for a number of years, and I can tell you in my mind a mountain of evidence supports the existence of these creatures," Ken Gerhard, a San Antonio cryptozoologist who co-wrote "Monsters of Texas," recently told the Houston Chronicle.I used to watch "Monsterquest", a cryptozoology show on the History Channel, that used scientific tests and approaches to determine the truth about various monsters. Most of the time, the show disproved the sightings. However, there were a few that were inconclusive, including Bigfoot.

Smithsonian Com On Loch Ness Monster And Yeti
CELEBRATING 1,447 YEARS OF THE LOCH NESS MONSTER
An artist's depiction of a Plesiosaur, the same species Nessie reportedly belongs to. Photo: The Berlin AquariumYesterday, 1,447 years ago the Gaelic Irish missionary monk Saint Columba was poking around the Scottish highlands when he reportedly stumbled upon a creature no man had before seen: an ancient, long-surviving plesiosaurs, better known now as the Loch Ness monster. According to Adomnan, the ninth Abbot of Iona who later recorded Columba's adventures, the Saint came upon a group of locals digging a grave for a man recently killed by a monster said to inhabit the River Ness. All fired up, Columba took off for the river and promptly saved a swimmer from the monster by invoking the sign of the cross and declaring, "Thou shalt go no further, nor touch the man; go back with all speed." The beast halted as if it were "pulled back with ropes" and fled in terror. Columba saved the swimmer and won over a few converts from the grateful villagers. Thus, the legend of the Loch Ness monster was born. Of course, the fact that Adomnan also recounts adventures in which Columba calms storms, expels evil spirits and raises people from the dead made no impact on the legend's believability, nor did the fact that Medieval water monster stories were a favorite gimmick used to instil the fear of God in quaking believers. And somewhere through the passings on of local lore, Loch Ness, Scotland's second-largest loch, or lake, took over as the monster's home rather than the originally reported River Ness, which runs off the lake. After the Saint's close call, the monster was not "spotted" for another 1,368 years, when Mr. and Mrs. George Spicer reported seeing "a most extraordinary form of animal" cross the road in front of their car on July 22, 1933. According to their account, the creature was about 25 feet long and 4 feet high, with a long, spotted neck that resembled a thick elephant trunk.Their account sparked a frenzy of similar sightings, including hunting parties determined to catch the animal "dead or alive." As technology developed, so too did the various ways in which people tried to depict the monster, including by film, video or sonar. Later analysis revealed each one to be a creatively staged hoax.Just in time for Nessie's anniversary, however, a new photo - the "best yet" - emerged. ABC news reports:George Edwards takes his boat, "Nessie Hunter," out onto Loch Ness nearly every day, often with tourists who hope to see the creature for themselves. Early one morning in November of last year, Edwards was turning his ship back to shore after spending the morning searching for an old steam engine on the lake floor, when he saw something else.
"I saw something out of the corner of my eye, and immediately grabbed my camera," Edwards told ABC News. "I happened to get a good picture of one of them."Edwards said he watched the creature for about 10 minutes, but does not explain why he only snapped one photo during that window.Rival Loch Ness monster enthusiast Steve Felthman already called foul and debunked the photo to STV News:He says he is convinced Mr Edwards took the picture during the filming of a documentary on the monster which he participated in, and has sourced the film's fake fibreglass hump which he believes is the star of Mr Edwards' snap.
Mr Feltham said: "There's absolutely no doubt that this is the same thing. Look at the step slope on the front - it's got several ridges on it. The number of ridges is the same as on the model.Edwards countered, claiming to know nothing about any fake hump although admitting Feltham is "entitled to his opinion." Even at 1,447 years old, the legend of the Loch Ness monster just keeps on giving.More from Smithsonian.com:Yes, We're Actually Still Looking for the Yeti Crop Circles: The Art of the Hoax

YES, WE'RE ACTUALLY STILL LOOKING FOR THE YETI
Bring me to your yeti leader, and I'll test its DNA. Image: tolomeaMany scientists make their careers out of searching for the seemingly unfindable. The Higgs Boson, dark matter, the secret, hidden pieces of our universe. Other scientists search for things that probably aren't real at all. Like yetis. Researchers are about to embark on a quest to determine once and for all whether or not Yetis exist. That's right, a Yeti hunt. It's got a fancier name - the Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project - but it's a serious, scientific, Yeti hunt. The project focuses on DNA analysis. They're accepting submissions of samples from pretty much anyone who thinks they have evidence of a Yeti. People send the material in to them, where it's tested for DNA. That DNA can tell them a whole lot about whether the mythical beast exists. Now, there have in fact been DNA tests on supposed Yeti samples before. Every time they've come back as being human. But DNA techniques have gotten better, and the scientists are willing to give it one last go. Well, at least some of them. BBC Futures sums up the scientific atmosphere:It is likely that the project is the biggest and most comprehensive attempt yet to probe suspected "remains". "Nothing like this, on this level, has been done before," says Richard Freeman from the Centre for Fortean Zoology in the UK. But therein lies the rub. For people like Freeman who devote their lives to looking for these creatures, it is the biggest signal yet that after years out in the cold mainstream science is finally taking the seriously. But for some scientists, the whole venture is an embarrassing curiosity to be held at arm's length. One of the scientists involved in the project, Bryan Sykes, sees this as a catch all for those who claim science brushes them off. "It's one of the claims by cryptozoologists that science does not take them seriously. Well, this is their chance. We are calling for people to send us their evidence, and we will test it through DNA analysis," he told the BBC.This DNA evidence will certainly not be a nail in any sort of Yeti coffin. Even if they find no evidence whatsoever of the yeti, many will still believe. Last year, the Huffington Post reported that some scientists were "95 percent certain" that they had found evidence of the Yeti. Before that, bigfoot "researchers" asked people in California for money to test whether the creature left residue behind on a pickup truck.Even the director of the International Cryptozoology Museum is skeptical of many of these claims. He told The Huffington Post:"This does not seem to be any more than what you hear about from weekend excursions in North America that go out, discovering some hair of undetermined origin, calling it 'Bigfoot hair,' then locating some broken branches and piled trees, saying it was made by Bigfoot, and finding footprints that look like Sasquatch tracks. These are not 'proof' that would hold up, zoologically."But even for Sykes, the geneticist behind the project, this is all a bit far fetched. He's not ruling out the possibility of a new species - we discover new species all the time, many of them quite large. But he acknowledges that there will need to be some evidence. The BBC says, "he is also keen to point out that he is not - nor intends to become - a cryptozoologist. 'I don't not want to become completely eccentric,' he adds." DID BIGFOOT REALLY EXIST? HOW GIGANTOPITHECUS BECAME EXTINCT
A reconstruction of Gigantopithecus. Image courtesy of Flickr user Sam WiseBigfoot. Sasquatch. Yeti. The Abominable Snowman. Whatever you want to call it, such a giant, mythical ape is not real-at least, not anymore. But more than a million years ago, an ape as big as a polar bear lived in South Asia, until going extinct 300,000 years ago.
Scientists first learned of "Gigantopithecus" in 1935, when Ralph von Koenigswald, a German paleoanthropologist, walked into a pharmacy in Hong Kong and found an unusually large primate molar for sale. Since then, researchers have collected hundreds of "Gigantopithecus "teeth and several jaws in China, Vietnam and India. Based on these fossils, it appears "Gigantopithecus" was closely related to modern orangutans and "Sivapithecus", an ape that lived in Asia about 12 to 8 million years ago. With only dentition to go on, it's hard to piece together what this animal was like. But based on comparisons with gorillas and other modern apes, researchers estimate "Gigantopithecus" stood more than 10 feet tall and weighed 1,200 pounds (at most, gorillas only weigh 400 pounds). Given their size, they probably lived on the ground, walking on their fists like modern orangutans.
Fortunately, fossil teeth do have a lot to say about an animal's diet. And the teeth of "Gigantopithecus" also provide clues to why the ape disappeared.
The features of the dentition-large, flat molars, thick dental enamel, a deep, massive jaw-indicate "Gigantopithecus" probably ate tough, fibrous plants (similar to "Paranthropus"). More evidence came in 1990, when Russell Ciochon, a biological anthropologist at the University of Iowa, and colleagues (PDF) placed samples of the ape's teeth under a scanning electron microscope to look for opal phytoliths, microscopic silica structures that form in plant cells. Based on the types of phyoliths the researchers found stuck to the teeth, they concluded "Gigantopithecus" had a mixed diet of fruits and seeds from the fig family Moraceae and some kind of grasses, probably bamboo. The combination of tough and sugary foods helps explain why so many of the giant ape's teeth were riddled with cavities. And numerous pits on "Gigantopithecus"'s teeth-a sign of incomplete dental development caused by malnuntrition or food shortages-corroborate the bamboo diet. Ciochon's team noted bamboo species today periodically experience mass die-offs, which affect the health of pandas. The same thing could have happened to "Gigantopithecus".
A Gigantopithecus jaw. Image courtesy of WikicommonsFurther evidence of "Gigantopithecus"' food preferences and habitat was published last November. Zhao LingXia of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and colleagues analyzed carbon isotopes in a sample of "Gigantopithecus "teeth. Plants have different forms of carbon based on their type of photosynthesis; this carbon footprint is then recorded in the teeth of animals that eat plants. The team determined "Gigantopithecus-"and the animals living alongside it, such as deer, horses and bears-ate only C3 plants, evidence the ape lived in a forested environment. This work also supports the proposed bamboo diet, as bamboo is a C3 plant.
So what happened to this Pleistocene Yeti? Zhang's team suggested the rise of the Tibetan plateau 1.6 million to 800,000 years ago altered the climate of South Asia, ushering in a colder, drier period when forests shrank. Other factors could have exacerbated this crisis. "Gigantopithecus"'s neighbor, "Homo erectus", may have over-hunted and/or outcompeted their larger ape cousin. And at least one dental study indicates "Gigantopithecus" developed and matured very slowly-a sign they probably had low reproductive rates, which can elevate a species' risk of going extinct.
Some Bigfoot hunters say "Gigantopithecus" is alive and well, hiding out in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Other Sasquatch enthusiasts, however, point out this is unlikely, as Bigfoot is reported to be a swift, agile, upright walker-not a lumbering, 1,200-pound quadruped.

Every Kid Likes Dinosaurs Part Two
let the unfettered hypothesizing begin!. One idea which "surfaced" immediately was that it was formed by a meteorite impact, but how had it fought off the encroachment of the swamp vegetation so effectively? I suppose we'll never know that answer.Other than a mysterious round lake, what else did he find? One possibility was tracks. He felt that maybe these tracks, like the one pictured above, might belong to Mokele Mbembe. This is probably wrong. One thing that over-enthusiastic explorers might forget is that their are some plenty big but well-known critters out there. Also these characters often wander about more than you'd expect. We saw earlier on this site how Ivan Sanderson was corresponding with a guy in Africa who thought that he might be on the track of some kind of living mastodon like thing, and Ivan was right behind him on this. He ultimately got a mudtrack, which was not that much different than the one above, and he and Ivan still both thought they had something big. Ivan's zoologist friend at the Philadelphia Zoo had to talk him down off crypto-olympus by telling him that this was surely a pygmy rhino. [I think that's what he determined anyway
too lazy to go back and look it up now]. Regusters thought that his print might show three toes and thereby a dinosaur-like foot. But our friends the rhinos have a foot conformation which produces such fooler mudprints, and so our intrepid NASA engineer is probably out of his depth on this one. On another website, someone published a later story [entirely different thing having nothing to do with Regusters] wherein locals told of a battle with a mokele mbembe and when shown a picture like the one below said that yes, that is precisely what mokele mbembe looks like. What this tells us is that legends slide around the countryside and people with no contact with "mokele mbembe" at all transfer the name into other experiences with large dangerous and unfamiliar [to them] animals. It also tells us that you need more than stories. So did Regusters come up with more than the stories of Mackal et al? Most interestingly for we casual followers of these matters were several instances where the group felt that they saw an unknown large animal. Case 1: "perturbations in the glass-smooth surface of the lake which implied the presence of a sizable object". Case 2: Object sighted. "A long necked member could be clearly distinguished in the clear morning air". Submerged and not sighted again.Case 3: A loud roar from the jungle [this was recorded].Case 4: "Appearance of a very large object moving through the water." One kilometer distance. Pronounced wake. No head nor neck seen. Smooth dark brown surface. Native observers with team said much too large for hippopotamus, which is also unknown in that area. Case 5: Loud animal sound. Splash of something big entering water. Regusters' wife sees long serpent-like neck and head emerge from water c. 30 meters from boat. Head held two meters above surface. Dark gray color and smooth-skinned. Whole sighting was only about 5 seconds.Case 6: Regusters and wife alone exploring north end of shore and forest [place where allegedly two mokele mbembe animals had been killed by locals in past.] Heard heavy footsteps approaching from three different directions. The exploring instinct gave way to more fundamental ones and they ran. The line drawing above: this wasn't identified in the file materials, but appears to be a sketch by a local person of what he saw at Lac Tele. It could represent "Case 2". [correction: while packing up the SITU file, I came across Regusters' title for this. It is: Sketch of an animal (monster) made by Colonel Emmanuel Mossedzedi, deputy commandant of the Brazzaville Garrison. Later Regusters said that this sketch "came alive" with one of the sightings at the lake.]The camera shot of above left: this was also not identified in the file, but its location therein clearly indicates that it was sent by Regusters as part of his documentation of the expedition. I have seen this [in color and always left/right reversed] on the internet, and commented upon as if it is a probable crocodile. This could be true as Regusters says that the lake is heavy with crocodile population. [Another correction for the same reason as above: Regusters says that this is the Head portion of Mokele Mbembe submerging into Lake Tele. Taken from estimated distance of 300-400 feet.] So, what else? Regusters brought back his taped jungle roar and got some pretty good expert opinion to analyze it. That opinion said: interesting sounds but we can't identify them with any animal we know. All of us non-animal vocalization experts must take that for what it's worth. The only other scientific thing that Regusters did which is germane does not involve Lac Tele directly. It involves rather a dinosaur skeleton fossilized in Niger, of which he was given some "bone" samples to analyze. Why?Regusters' idea here was not crazy. What he felt that he knew from the geology of that Niger region was that it was not desert [as it is now] c.10,000 years ago, but rather quite wet, and likely verdant. And, it would not be a stretch at all to imagine that it was part of a large ecosystem which stretched from there down into the Cameroons and Congo area. If so, and if some evidence could be found for a surviving dinosaur species in the Niger region in the vicinity of a few thousand years ago, that evidence would state that African dinosaurs had indeed survived the Cretaceous boundary extinction, and as habitat shrunk, may have been left as a concentrated remnant in those Congolese swamps. So, he accepted the fossil samples happily and got a good lab to try to date them.As you can read in the letter above and below, the testing was not exactly plain sailing. This is well-explained by the analyst and is nobody's fault that a clearer answer was not obtained. All we can say is that the analysis does NOT show a VERY late date for the sample. What is frustrating about the language though is that one does not know whether it says that the sample was in the ballpark of a few tens of thousands of years [which would make Regusters' point just fine], or merely that anything over 30,00 back to multiple millions of years is fair game. So, there are the concrete elements of this, and the science, as best it happened. In all of that it seems to me that Regusters did a decently good job. However, this was not at all welcomed in either the skeptical nor cryptozoological communities. Why I do not know. Regusters was a cryptozoological outsider. Perhaps he wasn't "generous" enough to his forebears. Perhaps he was seen as an unwanted usurper, much as was Gerald Hawkins by the traditional archaeologists about his Stonehenge astronomical theories, or Luis Alvarez by the palaeontologists with his asteroid-killed-the-dinosaurs hypothesis [in these Hawkins was right, and Alvarez in great part was wrong, but paradoxically the wrong theory is nearly universally accepted by now and the right one still fights to get into the textbooks
we surely can mess things up]. I have my own experiences with such tribalism [I'm OK if I'm writing about UFOs {since I'm a Tribal Elder}, but roundly criticized if I write about Cryptozoology, by some anyway]. This is horribly ingrained in us apparently, much to the detriment of our species' advancement of knowledge. Whatever went on here in the Regusters case, it didn't help the cool pursuit of the truth about mokele mbembe. Regusters was angrily miffed by some of it. He wrote to Bob Warth: "I came to learn, sadly, that I was better prepared for the adventures of exploration and new geographic and biological discoveries than I was for the criticism and negative comments and attacks on my integrity I did receive after my return; especially criticism from armchair investigators, pseudoscientists, and skeptical members of the media."Regardless of what went on here in this sociological fiasco, any long-term member of the anomalies-researching community [who actually does any work and publication] has been there. I don't know what "blame" exists in this, and to whom, but on the surface of the documents that Bob Warth had in the SITU file, it seems to be to have been an honorable try by Regusters to discover something. There are animals who eat their young..................

New Ogopogo Sighting In British Columbia Lake Okanagan
At first glance, it looks like a ripple in the water.
But on further inspection, the dark shadows in British Columbia's Okanagan Lake show what could be seen as the outline of a large sea creature.
Or that is the conviction of Richard Huls, a local man who believes he has captured a video (SEE BELOW) of Ogopogo, Canada's version of Scotland's infamous Loch Ness Monster.
He spotted the object while visiting a winery with a clear view of the lake.
'It was not going with the waves,' Huls told The Vancouver Sun. 'It was not a wave obviously, just a darker colour. The size and the fact that they were not parallel with the waves made me think it had to be something else.
THE LEGEND OF OGOPOGO
Native Canadian Indian legend told of a beast called Nhaaitk - now known as Ogopogo - living in Okanagan Lake.
The serpent would demand a sacrifice from travellers for safe passage across the lake.
Indians dropped small animals into the water for a protected journey.
A sign by the lake reads: 'Before the unimaginative whiteman came, the fearsome lake monster N'ha-a-itk was well known to the superstitious Indians.
'His home was believed to be a cave at Squally Point, and small animals were carried in the canoes to appease the serpent.
'Ogopogo still is seen each year - but now by white men.'
'It proves something is down there. Whether it's Ogopogo or not is a different story, but there is something at least down there.'
The shaky 30-second footage shows two slender objects under the water. The shadows, which are about 40ft in length, do not appear to move.
Ogopogo has allegedly been spotted on more than a thousand occasions since 1860.
A handful of grainy photographs and films exist of the 'monster'.
The most common description is a 40ft-long sea serpent with humps. It has been described as resembling a horse or goat.
While some sightings have been witnessed by up to 30 people at a time, they have often been dismissed as animals, such as otters, or objects, such as floating logs.
In 1991, an expedition financed by Japan's Nippon Television searched for the monster using a remotely-operated vehicle and a miniature submarine.
The pilot took the vehicle to the deepest part of the lake, but no monsters - or bones - were found.
Benjamin Radford, from the Skeptical Inquirer science magazine, said he was not convinced by this latest 'sighting'.
He said: 'There are no humps, nor head, nor form - only two long, darkish, more or less straight forms that appear to be a few dozen feet long.
'Perhaps not coincidentally, Lake Okanagan has tens of thousands of logs harvested by the timber industry floating just under the lake's surface.'

Bigfoot Is Real
A key point is that science is slowly beginning to pay attention.
My own experience began in the mid nineties when I decide to simply go through the available data to see were it led. It led to a fresh understanding of a proper theoretical foundation for scientific method as well as a powerful case for the reality of Big Foot. What in fact came out is that with enough data, a surprisingly clear picture will emerge from which testable inferences and questions may be drawn to be confirmed by later sightings.
I then applied the method to what is turning out to be a host of curious data points on other creatures begging for something other that lazy dismissal. It turns out that Nessie is odd and unique until you discover hundreds of conforming lakes throughout the Northern and Southern Hemispheres all happily general their own local version of the tale. Again all the data is local and the observers are alone unique while the necessary conditions are common but often outside human interaction.
In the meantime far too many scientists are asked for opinions that they have no right to provide. Unfortunately too many do opine instead of stating that the data is insufficient and they personally do not care which would be an exact truth.
The Bigfoot phenomenon has now entered a state in which contact has become both plausible and possible. It will be possible to speak to them. We need some young researchers to pull a Jane Goodall project. Several excellent targets now exist.
We even have all the necessary hardware to assist.
"BIGFOOT IS REAL"
"Stefan Lovgren"
National Geographic News
"October 23, 2003"
"It's been the subject of campfire stories for decades. A camera-elusive, grooming-challenged, bipedal ape-man that roams the mountain regions of North America. Some call it Sasquatch. Others know it as Bigfoot.Thousands of people claim to have seen the hairy hominoid, but the evidence of its existence is fuzzy. There are few clear photographs of the oversized beast. No bones have ever been found. Countless pranksters have admitted to faking footprints. "
Yet a small but vociferous number of scientists remain undeterred. Risking ridicule from other academics, they propose that there's enough forensic evidence to warrant something that has never been done: a comprehensive, scientific study to determine if the legendary primate actually exists.
"Given the scientific evidence that I have examined, I'm convinced there's a creature out there that is yet to be identified," said Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at IdahoState Universityin Pocatello.
THOUSANDS OF SIGHTINGS
Sasquatch stories go back centuries. Tales of mythical giant apes lurk in the oral traditions of most Native American tribes, as well as in Europe and Asia. The Himalaya has its Abominable Snowman, or the Yeti. In Australia, Bigfoot is known as the Yowie Man.Bigfoot advocates hypothesize that the primate is the offspring of an ape from Asia that wandered to North America during the Ice Age. They believe there are at least 2,000 ape men walking upright in North America's woods today. An adult male is said to be at least 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall, weigh 800 pounds (360 kilograms), and have feet twice the size of a human's. The creatures are described as shy and nocturnal, and their diets consist mostly of berries and fruits.Matt Moneymaker had been searching for Bigfoot for years. In the woods of eastern Ohio, he claims he finally came eye to eye with the elusive primate."It was 2 o'clock in the morning and the moon was a quarter full," recalled Moneymaker. "Suddenly, there he was, an eight-foot-tall creature, standing 15 feet away, growling at me. He wanted to let me know I was in the wrong place."Moneymaker, who lives in DanaPoint in southern California, is a lawyer who runs his own marketing agency. In his spare time, he leads the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, a network of more than 3,000 people who claim to have seen the Sasquatch.Unfortunately, no one has been able to snap a clear picture of the beast.
Perhaps the most compelling photographic evidence of Bigfoot is a controversial short film shot by Roger Patterson in 1967, which appears to document a female Bigfoot striding along a riverbank in northern California.
"IT CERTAINLY WASN'T HUMAN"
Now, Bigfoot advocates are increasingly turning to forensic evidence to prove the existence of the giant creature.
Investigator Jimmy Chilcutt of the Conroe Police Department in Texas, who specializes in finger- and footprints, has analyzed the more than 150 casts of Bigfoot prints that Meldrum, the Idaho State professor, keeps in a laboratory.Chilcutt says one footprint found in 1987 in Walla Walla in Washington State has convinced him that Bigfoot is real."The ridge flow pattern and the texture was completely different from anything I've ever seen," he said. "It certainly wasn't human, and of no known primate that I've examined. The print ridges flowed lengthwise along the foot, unlike human prints, which flow across. The texture of the ridges was about twice the thickness of a human, which indicated that this animal has a real thick skin."Meldrum, meanwhile, says a 400-pound (180-kilogram) block of plaster known as the Skookum Cast provides further evidence of Bigfoot's existence. The cast was made in September 2000 from an impression of a large animal that had apparently lain down on its side to retrieve some fruit next to a mud hole in the Gifford PinchotNational Forest in Washington State. Meldrum says the cast contains recognizable impressions of a forearm, a thigh, buttocks, an Achilles tendon and heel. "It's 40 to 50 percent bigger than a normal human," he said. "The anatomy doesn't jive with any known animal."A few academics believe Meldrum could be right.Renowned chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall last year surprised an interviewer from National Public Radio when she said she was sure that large, undiscovered primates, such as the Yeti or Sasquatch, exist.
THE SKEPTICS
But the vast majority of scientists still believe Bigfoot is little more than supermarket tabloid fodder. They wonder why no Bigfoot has ever been captured, dead or alive."The bottom line is, they don't have a body," said Michael Dennett, who writes for Skeptical Inquirer magazine and who has followed the Bigfoot debate for 20 years.Bigfoot buffs note that it's rare to find a carcass of a grizzly bear in the wild. While that's true, grizzlies have not escaped photographic documentation.Hair samples that have been recovered from alleged Bigfoot encounters have turned out to come from elk, bears or cows. Many of the sightings and footprints, meanwhile, have proved to be hoaxes. After Bigfoot tracker Ray Wallace died in a California nursing home last year, his children finally announced that their prank-loving dad had created the modern myth of Bigfoot when he used a pair of carved wooden feet to create a track of giant footprints in a northern California logging camp in 1958.Dennett says he's not surprised by the flood of Bigfoot sightings."It's the same kind of eyewitness reports we see for the Loch Ness Sea Monster, UFOs, ghosts, you name it," he said. "The monster thing is a universal product of the human mind. We hear such stories from around the world."

Rock Apes Vietnams Bigfoot
By Gundhramns Constrain
December 5, 2013
The Vietnamese pay a visit it "NGU'oI R'uNG", meaning "forest people". Comparison the Bigfoot in North America, this is its counterpart in Vietnam. They are secreted sort out of humble human-like creatures that give birth to been reported from assorted parts of the world.
According to Wikipedia (2013), this hominid cryptid "is described as being brusquely 1.8 m (6 ft) tall and covered along with spike restrict in the slap, the soles of the feet, the hands, and the face. The spike ranges in color from profound to brown to black. The mammal walks on two legs and has been reported moreover isolated and sad in inadequate groups. The mammal is most regularly sighted foraging for rations from fruits and leaves to langers and however flying foxes."
The swell of "Ngu'oi R'ung ranges from the V~u Quang personality routine and other woody areas of Vietnam to northern Borneo and Laos.
Popular the Vietnam War, a few U.S. mass reported having seen these tall and hairy creatures. They called them "Treasure Apes". And the encounters were not toning at all, for rock apes were very agressive. Vietnamese military equally mentioned having had the actual suspect along with these creatures now the actual warfare.
These uncontrollable hominids attacked the mass, intense and charging in opposition to them and at era throwing sticks and pebbles at them, subsequently the stamp "rock apes" susceptible to these cryptids by the U.S. mass
Cryptozoologists receive these apes belong to a group of mammals that give birth to evolved colaterally to humans and by some means give birth to been able to support to the present day by rout earnest in the knot in assorted parts of the world, as in the case of the Ngu'oi R'ung, the unhurried conifer forests in pompous latitudes, as for occurrence the famous Bigfoot or Abominable snowman in Canada and the Join States, or in the valleys and gray mountains, desire the Abominable snowman in the Himalayan area of Tibet and Nepal.
Speckled scientists, for meticulous Dr Bernard Heuvelmans, give birth to been tracking these plants along with the expectation of capturing a specimen but so far to no avail. The efforts of an tour requested by Hoang Minh Thao, a Vietnamese well-liked, equally proved futile in 1974.
From time to time, exhibit give birth to been reports of road which apparently belong to these cryptid creatures but upon firm journal give birth to turned out to belonged to fixed plants or were frauds.
Hairs from humble mammals tinge to belong to trickery apes give birth to equally been found by people but DNA analyses give birth to been not definite or were samples outmoded to be from other fixed apes.
This is the case of the rock apes. Acquaint with is follow up evidence of their existence restrict stories from the quarters tribesmen in the Vietnamese highlands and one follow.
According to ANU (Australian State Scholastic), "a 10 appointment obtain catalog of the whole Fundamental Highlands equally netted follow up. Tran Hong Viet, now Educationalist of Zoology at Hanoi's School Scholastic, found a disbelieving follow which he photographed and cast, but his interrupt was such that he did not report on this or stories he had jointly at a precipitate conference in 1985."
Efforts to prove whether rock apes are real life creatures and members of the human approach stay behind to this very day.
Solely exhibit has been a new sense to regard as being rock apes by in the least cryptozoologists. The have a row give birth to been untaken in a documentary (Album 1).

Russian U S And Other Scientists From Around The World Gather To Seek The Elusive Yeti
Idiom by SW/LITS.
Scientists from a number of countries (Russia, the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Estonia, Mongolia and China), strength conference this week (Thursday - Saturday), to assessment the existence of the eminent creatures recognized as the Sasquatch.
From this conference, a band of scientist strength be sent out to turn upside down the Kemerovo and close Altai theme, about 1,988 miles (3,200 kilometers) east of Moscow, in search of the slippery "ape-man".
The scientists strength adversity evidence of the existence of the creatures, such as byzantine undergrowth, road of up to 14 inches (35 centimeters) and flat originator aspect huts. Top strength overly maintain moreover hearing recordings and photographs and it is flat supposed by be over attain wardens, that evidence was obtained by a motion-triggered camera in a nest 50 miles from Tashtagol.
Yet existing had been a widely slighter seek in September, this new seek strength be the first of its caring bearing in mind 1958, when on earth scientists from the Soviet School of Sciences searched Western Siberia, in an loom to transfer a Sasquatch.
Igor Burtsev, head of the Moscow-based Comprehensive Sensitivity of Hominology, scarcely expected, "What Homo sapiens started populating the world, it viciously exterminated its nearby related in the hominid belt-tightening exercise, Homo neanderthalensis. A selection of of the Neanderthals, thus far, may accept survived to this day in firm mountainous wooded habitats that are choice or beneath off boundaries to their arch foes."
Life-force these scientists recognize charge proof of the existence of the Yeti? I ask them bunch, as it seems researchers in the field of in our own aid sow can't hum to recognize proof of the existence of our own Bigfoot (related of the Yeti?), or proof worthwhile evidence of Space visits from outdoor space.
If the scientists and researchers do recognize proof of Sasquatch, Bigfoot, aliens, or any of the a variety of other cryptids good in the field of on our own planet, how is that leaving to shock our lives? Are they all essential in firm way? I'm vanished to wonder... and so are a variety of others.
