And while these encounters seem too strange to be believed by some, others say the testimony of those involved in them only add to a mountain of evidence suggesting we are being visited far more than we may have originally thought.

This past weekend, I was browsing through the UFO Iconoclast(s) site. Rich Reynolds had a blog article linking to Paul Kimball's website, "The Other Side of Truth." The topic was Kimball's top ten UFO cases that he had compiled some time ago and his reappraisal of those ten cases.
I knew that Kimball had listed Malmstrom's incidents in his top ten so I was naturally curious about his rationale, or thoughts about the case. In short, I was surprised by his current views regarding the Oscar Flight story and Robert Salas in general.
"7. Malmstrom AFB, 1967 - This case has generated more publicity than any of the others within ufology, if not the general public (Rendlesham is much better known there), largely because of the feud between "UFOs at Missile Bases" proponent Robert Hastings and James Carlson, the son of one of the officers allegedly involved in it all. I think they deserve each other, because they are both bonkers in my book. Focusing on the case instead of the feud, I don't buy it. I like Bob Salas (the primary witness) as a person, and think he is an honest man, but I also think that while he's made a genuine effort to remember things as they happened, he's got it wrong. When I interviewed him in 2006, he told me that he underwent hypnosis to recover his memories of the incident, which always rings alarm bells with me. There are no other witnesses or documents which corroborate his story - and there should be. Where are any of the soldiers who were topside who reportedly saw the UFO? I admire Bob for his advocacy of a nuclear free world, but I can't buy Malmstrom as anything other than a missile failure due to prosaic reasons, and some tall tales that he has absorbed as a truthful narrative."
First, I have to admit, Kimball's interview with Robert Salas was totally unknown to me...this was the first that I knew of it.
Second, I had never seen nor read anything concerning Salas having to undergo hypnosis to recover memories of the incident. I readily admit that I was stunned to learn this. And yes, Paul Kimball was right about his instincts with "alarm bells ringing."
My good friend, James Carlson had a few choice words concerning Kimball's article on the forums of Realityuncovered which can be seen here and here. James does not buy the hypnosis angle, but I must somewhat disagree with my good friend.
The issue of the use of hypnosis does explain a lot since the Oscar case has always been a mystery, a disjointed tale with so many convoluted components. And quite honestly Robert Salas has always been a perplexing figure filled with contradictions and finally (shrewdly?) tying all of those contradictions into one self proclaimed "legal" affidavit. The truth hammered on an anvil of confabulations has always been my thought.
I offered, last night, a point of reflection for James:

I was unable to reply fully earlier as I had to head off to work. I think that the more rational way to look at Kimball's statement is that he is giving the impression that there is nothing to any of the Malmstrom claims. He is just many of a growing list that sees the shine off the bloom of Hastings' and Salas' claims. Did Kimball come to that conclusion all on his own? I seriously doubt that. And, is it important at all how he reached his conclusions? That's not important. The fact is that Malmstrom has been a dead issue for quite some time.
I personally have no proof that Salas is intentionally lying or being fraudulent in his current and past claims...I have no evidence of such. Yet, per Kimball's assertion that Salas is fair and honorable, I have no proof or evidence that such is the case either. What I do know is that Salas has made numerous claims that are completely contradictory of each other and that it is possible from a psychological angle that he has confabulated to the point of a type of fix delusional state.
Kimball's claims that Salas (supposedly, for I have no proof of that) under went hypnosis raises questions about the Oscar affair regardless of what version he has presented. If we take Kimball's statements at face value, he supposedly talked to Salas, and say that this is true, then the mystery is much clearer and explains the following:
1. Why he was initially confused at his alert location.
2. Why no one that was present on the LCF came forward to support his claims
3. Why Fred Meiwald wrote the 1996 letter stating that he remembered things differently
4. Add in anything you want to at this point.
I'm reminded of a fairly recent blog post on Kevin Randle's blog where he basically paints Salas as a broken or lone figure. At least that's my impression.
If Kimball is wrong on all accounts, then the above 4 points still apply.
Therefore, this tortuous argument is irrelevant and merely becomes circular in nature with no end or conclusion to anyone's satisfaction. I firmly believe that we are at the end of this saga and yours and mine hold true based on the weight of the evidence.

A final word on James Carlson. James has more knowledge on the Malmstrom AFB case than anyone that I know...that includes me. When I first started looking into the case, I came across James' work and his research methodology. Quiet frankly, I thought it was the work of someone who had been a missile maintenance technician. I simply set out to verify his findings and found that his argument against the pro-UFO component of the Malmstrom saga was decidedly sound....James' argument had merit.
Initially this alternative, and the only logical, view point was intentionally embargoed on various UFO websites. There would be no outlet for due consideration as certain individuals claiming to be in search of truth showed themselves to merely be narcissistic hypocrites. Malmstrom had become a "sacred cow" for some and the truth about the incident had to be suppressed.
That suppression of the truth is over as I, James Carlson, Tim Printy, and others have ripped a hole in this fantasy...this myth. The Malmstrom UFO incident of 1967 is now part of folklore and nothing more. Sure, others will cling to it, for they have a belief or the need to believe. Some may have a financial angle with the sole purpose to exploit the gullible, but one cannot milk a dead or dying cow.

What can I say? Life got in the way of blogging again for a while so - sorry for the absence of posts since early April.
Anyway, whilst routing through one my local bookstores months ago I came across "A.D. After Disclosure" which was amongst the (frankly abysmally) tiny selection of books devoted to the UFO/UAP subject.
For my own reasons, and probably like millions of other people around the world, I'm still effectively at 'first base' when it comes to the subject. I believe the whole UFO/UAP subject deserves much more attention than it gets and less ridicule than it deserves - especially when thousands of professionals in the armed forces and other state services around the globe have been reporting inexplicable things in our skies for at least seventy years. Despite the hard line taken by debunkers and the ridicule the subject attracts, the phenomenon isn't about to go away and - like one well known UK skeptic and self-proclaimed 'expert' on the subject would otherwise like to suggest (whom I won't name here) - it seems a little arrogant to explain all of it away on just wish-fulfilment, mythology, cultural influence or some form of mass-hallucination.
However, I wouldn't go as far as saying that extraterrestrials (in the traditional sense of intelligent species from other planets) are necessarily behind the most compelling of UFO/UAP cases either. So you can begin to see why the central core of this book requires a 'leap of faith' for me - and for many other people I would imagine - by reading it.
First Impressions
Whilst I doubted the wisdom of having an endorsement by none other than Stan Lee* (of Marvel Comics fame) on the front cover, after having looked into the (quite impressive) credentials of the two authors Richard M. Dolan and Bryce Zabel, I decided to give the book a go - and can honestly say I was not disappointed.
[*Don't get me wrong - I've nothing against Stan Lee and Marvel Comics. I just don't think he's necessarily the best person to be cited endorsing something that appears to be a serious attempt to address the issue of 'Disclosure'.]
What first struck me was that, as far as I'm aware, nobody - outside the various works of science fiction - has made a serious and in-depth effort to tackle the questions arising from what would happen were it to be publicly proven beyond doubt that: a) intelligent extraterrestrials exist; and b) they have been engaging with humanity for some time albeit in apparent secrecy.
So the authors have set a publishing precedent in this at least - but I'm happy to be corrected if there is another similar such book out there that predates this one.
I mentioned making the 'leap of faith' above by reading this book and would point out that it is a necessary one in order to properly appreciate its content.
Re: its overall content, it makes for an accessible and engaging - if sometimes slightly cliched and overly dramatic - read but I can understand that such a writing style would be necessary to retain many readers' attention.
At Its Core
The central aim of the book is to give informed speculation about the likely consequences of - and a suggested timeline of likely events - in the face of proven intelligent ET contact and this the book does really well. In my view, it effectively leaves no stone unturned in terms of how a significant event leading to Disclosure would affect, amongst other things:-
* initial Governments' responses to the event and how this would be managed;
* the public's reaction and their subsequent treatment of those in authority especially if certain Governments were proven to be complicit in some sort of cover-up;
* how this might to a lesser or greater extent lead to political or civil instability;
* the collateral damage and unintended consequences as a result of such instability;
* how the mainstream media would cover the developments;
* how the world would re-examine the phenomenon of UFOs and its history and how this might impact on education;
* how the entertainment industry might deal with developments;
* how the economies and stock markets of the world might be affected and whether this might cause another financial crisis;
* how legal systems might have to change to incorporate previously unforseen legal complexities (something I'd honestly never considered until I read this book);
* how religions, their followers and leaders might react and how this might affect religious views;
* how aspects of mainstream science might have to re-evaluate certain theories;
* how advances in technology might be affected especially in terms of how the world's energy supplies and linked economies might potentially change;
* how different generations might react to such developments; and
* how this might all impact on daily life.
Each of the above (and some other elements I haven't listed) have separate passages devoted to each topic and make a good fist of suggesting what likely consequences might be. One I hadn't expected was in terms of religion (which is backed up by some actual research into public opinion on the question). I won't spoil things by saying why here - I would suggest one reads the book to find out - but suffice to say most people's expectations in this area may be turned on their head after reading this book.
THE BREAKAWAY GROUP
Another interesting thread running through the book is the theory concerning the 'Breakaway Group' which - the authors suggest - is a super secret organisation which has supposedly been coordinating events behind the scenes ever since apparent contact with intelligent non-humans in the post-war period. The authors attempt to speculate why the Group came about, how it has been involved with many of the issues listed in the bullets above and how it would seek to manage developments following an unprecedented event which leads to Disclosure might bring.
Conspiracy theorists will of course lap up this aspect of the book. Throughout Ufology in general there are frequent references to 'Cabals' or secret societies trying to clandestinely impose a (mostly unwelcome) 'New World Order' on a largely unsuspecting world.
Thankfully the authors do not sink to regurgitating many of the extreme ideas espoused by many theorists on the web and elsewhere. They do however attempt to take a hard look at how such a body not only could have come into existence (with the possible emergence of the 'military industrial complex' warned about by President Eisenhower in his now famous farewell address) but also just how it might be operating across geographical and legal boundaries and with technological resources quite possibly at least 60 years ahead of that available in the public domain.
The authors readily cite examples of how such secrecy could be effectively maintained and how clever manipulation of the media and national security agencies - amongst other bodies - could confound any serious attempts to reveal such a Breakaway Group to the world. Even more compelling is the authors' suggestion that such a Group might, given their possible advanced resources, have developed its own 'infrastructure' and society 'off the grid' as it were which is operating under the noses of the unsuspecting billions around the world.
Concerning this thread, one only has to look at bodies like the Bildeberg Group (featured in the press only this week for their clandestine 2013 meeting in Watford of all places!) to see real examples of secretive bodies dabbling in world affairs, and as the authors discuss, impressively large scale undertakings like the Manhattan Project, which apparently employed 130,000 people in total secrecy in its time and was effectively kept secret until necessity required that it be revealed to the world with the infamous (and horrific) bombing of the Japanese. Given that nearly 70 years have passed since that chapter in history, one can begin to understand how mind-boggling subsequent projects could be with greater funding and more advanced technology at their disposal.
THE OTHERS
Of course no such book would be complete without discussing the non-terrestrial intelligences (NTIs) that are the source of an event that leads to Disclosure. Rather than dwelling much on what such NTIs or ET might actually be (given there could be a number of possible explanations), the authors do examine what might be their likely motivations.
Whilst some interesting points are made, for me this tends to be the weakest element of the book. Whilst it can be an interesting thought experiment to ponder what moves such non-human entities to apparently only indirectly interact with humanity (until the Disclosure event described), one could argue that there is no direct evidence at all to draw on for this. Conversely, the human experience and human history provides a wealth of material for speculation in terms of the likely impact of Disclosure and the likelihood of the existence of a Breakaway Group, which I think this book does really well.
CONCLUSION
This is a thoroughly engaging, sometimes complex and thought-provoking book which examines - as far as I'm aware - a relatively unexplored territory (outside the realms of science fiction). I would encourage any serious reader to add this to their library. What would be truly fascinating would be to see how accurate some of the authors' predictions would be if the world did indeed one day suddenly find itself facing actual public Disclosure concerning ET contact...

The Socorro UFO incident of April 24, 1964, is one of the very best UFO cases on record, with an unshakable, credible witness, policeman Lonnie Zamora, and unexplainable physical evidence left behind on the ground (or lack ther, such as evidence of hoaxers being responsible).
Despite this, various debunkers have tried to argue that Zamora saw some sort of balloon. This will only deal with the impossibility of it being balloon because the historical wind data (shown below) makes it "impossible." Zamoras UFO would have had to fly almost directly into stiff winds. (This was reported by primary investigators in 1964, but stupid debunking arguments never seem to die.)
Weather reports at the time of The Socorro Incident show a LOW pressure storm system moving in from the West and creating strong gusts of winds throughout New Mexico. Historical wind directions of surrounding weather stations between 5:00 and 7:00 pm are shown in "RED." Departure direction of the Socorro object shortly before 6:00 pm is in "DARK BLUE." The UFO would have had to fly almost directly into stiff winds. Idealized LOW pressure system with winds circulating counterclockwise shown in "LIGHT BLUE." More realistic LOW would have winds following general circulation but spiraling in toward center. Best guess Socorro winds at the time of sighting in "DOTTED RED," out of SSW.
The wind data also confirms Lonnie Zamoras account of the winds at the time (~5:50 p.m. MST): "The wind was blowing hard... Wind was blowing against me, from about the south-southwest or maybe the southwest, cause I could tell the way dust [from spinning tires] flew off when I was trying to put the car up that first hill to where I had a view of the ravine and the object down in it."
Zamora also reported the egg-shaped object departing rapidly to the WSW, in the direction of a prominent mine 2 miles away at the base of the western mountains, again meaning that the object would have had to fly almost directly into the wind he reported. Zamora also mentioned three other landmarks for the departure direction, all to he WSW, so there is no ambiguity in the direction of departure that he reported.
This is indeed confirmed by the historical wind data and weather reports that show a low pressure storm system beginning to move through N.M. at the time of the sighting, around 5:50 p.m. MST, bringing winds out of the South to West, with Socorro most likely having winds out of the SSW. Zamora had it exactly correct.
Strong, gusty winds were predicted, kicking up dust at times throughout New Mexico. Gusts of winds in nearby Albuquerque were predicted to be 25-30 mph at noon, picking up to 40 mph or more at night. Average wind speeds in Albuquerque at 5:00 & 6:00 p.m. were around 20 mph (meaning gusts would have been at least 30 mph by weather bureau definition). Similarly in Truth and Consequences, even closer to and south of Socorro, winds at 5:00 & 6:00 p.m. were 23 mph. Stallion Station Army Air Field, at the north end of White Sands Missile Range and only about 20 miles from Socorro, had winds of about 14 mph at the time of the sighting.
Likewise Zamora reported strong gusty winds in Socorro at the time, sometimes kicking up dust. As shown below, Albuquerque was near the center of the LOW pressure storm system moving through, and winds increase as one approaches the center of the LOW. (Nearby Zuni, N.M., WSW of Albuquerque, and closer to the LOWs center, had reported wind gusts of 60 mph.)
Below is a plot of the historical wind direction data (red arrows), derived from the NOAA website (Surface Data, Global Hourly) and wunderground.com (Nov 2010: additional historical data for Roswell and Truth and Consequences, N.M., Aug. 2012; Clayton, Cliff, Farmington, Las Vegas, Raton, Santa Rosa, Silver City, Stallion AAF, Tucumcari, and Zuni N.M.; Flagstaff, AZ, Amarillo, TX, and Pueblo, CO added ). The range of reported wind directions between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. is plotted at each reporting station. An idealized LOW pressure storm system (circular light blue arrows) has been plotted that closely matches the reported wind directions from widely scattered weather stations. (Note: In some locations, such as Farmington, Roswell, Las Vegas, and Pueblo, more than two directions have been plotted, the result of more than two reporting stations in the area and/or lack of agreement between NOAA and Weather Underground data.)
The Socorro UFO departure course reported by Zamora is shown in dark blue. As can be seen, the UFO would have been flying almost directly into the stiff winds blowing at the time, completely ruling out any sort of balloon.
LOW pressure systems circulate counterclockwise in the Northern hemisphere. The center of the LOW at the time of the sighting would have been north and west of Socorro near the Four Corners area of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. All areas east and south of the LOW center would have winds coming out of the South to West.
General wind direction follows the idealized circular CCW circulation pattern, but in real LOWs, the winds tend to cut somewhat across the idealized pattern and spiral into the center, like water circulating around and spiraling into a drain.
Winds at the time in nearby Albuquerque were out of the South to SSW. But as you go further south, the LOW pressure system circulation brings in more westerly winds, such as seen at Alamogordo, Truth or Consequences, and El Paso. Stallion AAF, 21 miles SE of Zamora, had winds out of the SSW. Therefore winds in Socorro at the time were probably out of the SSW or maybe SW, just like Zamora said. A best-guess SSW wind in Socorro has been plotted as a dotted red arrow, again emphasizing how the UFO (blue arrow) would have had to fly against the wind.
