Close encounters with Barbara Bartholic usually sparked the same reaction.
"She always left you laughing. She had this marvelous sense of humor," her sister, Catha Block, said.
"Barbara just had this way of making people feel important - like you were the only person in the world."
One out-of-this-world topic was no laughing matter, though, to the Tulsa artist and art gallery owner.
Bartholic had been fascinated for years by the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and in the 1970s, the subject consumed her.
Bartholic's subsequent field research into UFOs led to writing and speaking engagements. It wasn't long before she became a respected UFO authority worldwide.
One of the consultants on the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," she later wrote about her experiences in the book "Barbara: The Story of a UFO Investigator."
Barbara Simon Bartholic died Nov. 10 after suffering a stroke. She was 71.
A service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel under the direction of Add'Vantage Funeral Service.
"Barbara really perceived a world that's larger than the one we live in," Block said, adding that she was never embarrassed by her sister's devotion to a subject that often draws stares.
"We were a free-thinking bunch and were open to the idea," she said.
"And it was so fascinating. It was like going out of your universe into another one. If I was able, I'd love to carry on her
work."
Bartholic, who moved to Tulsa from St. Louis, Mo., as a child, started out in an entirely different line of work - just one of many over her life.
Her mother, Tulsan Alice Simon, was a fashion model when she was younger. So was her mother before her.
Bartholic carried on the family tradition, starting at age 17. Her modeling took her to Los Angeles and New York City, where she worked with well-known fashion designers.
After she married Tulsa artist Bob Bartholic, she decided to move on.
A painter herself who excelled in oils, she and Bob became leading figures in the Tulsa art scene and ran two downtown art galleries in the 1970s.
Barbara Bartholic also hosted her own television show, "Arts Arena," on a local cable channel. She interviewed Tulsa-area artists, but it wasn't a conventional talk show, her sister said.
"She was very inventive and avant-garde," Block said.
Bartholic's other interests began to take a back seat to her obsession with UFOs.
For several years, she worked closely with friend and fellow UFO investigator Jacque F. Vallee, a French astronomer who inspired the "Close Encounters" character of Claude Lacombe, played by French film director Francois Truffaut.
Bartholic interviewed alleged alien abductees and looked into reported sightings of UFOs around the country. After nearly 40 years, she was convinced, her sister says, that we are not alone.
Block added that Bartholic had been working recently on a documentary film on the subject.
She is survived by four children, Braden Bartholic, Mandy Wilson, Catha Clark and Becky Bartholic; her mother, Alice Simon; one sister, Catha Block; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Event Date: 2010-05-30Event Location: Oxnard, California, USEvent Description: "Driving home from late show at movies at 11:35 p.m. suddenly caught sight of bright lights though passenger side front window. At first thought it was reflection of street lamps, but it quickly became apparent it wasn't. I pulled over and asked my wife to verify what I was seeing. My wife, I and our 3 kids all got out of the car to observe what was clearly a bright yellow translucent disc hovering above and moving slowly across the sky. It moved smoothly with a glowing halo around it. It was incredibly bright. I excitedly tried to take the photo with a digital SLR but it was not able to adjust the aperature quickly enough so I got a shot with my camera phone (attached). My daughter also caught a picture with her cell phone. While I have always been open-minded to the possiblity of alien visitations, I have always maintained a healthy degree of skepticism. However, in this case, I truly am convinced that this was an object encounter not of this world. My wife and kids were also impressed."http://www.mufoncms.com/files/"36.20 ufo.jpghttp://www.mufoncms.com/files/"0002335UFO.jpg--Please check out my books at www.amazon.com, Dragons of Asgard & UFO Sightings of 2006-2009, by Scott C. Local, soon-to-be published UFO researcher/writer Jordan Hofer sent your Assistant State Director an email recently and he is looking for material for a second book. He wants to contact people who believe they have had genuine, on-going contact with the UFO phenomenon as deep experiencers or "alien abductees." When Jordan asked me last year, I was happy to offer comments on a draft of Jordan's soon-be-published Evolutionary Ufology. Jordan has used his training and expertise in anthropology and biology to theorize about what might be behind the UFO phenomenon. His is a decidedly different take on the possible origins of the UFO beings. Be sure to look for his book in the coming months. Here is Jordan's email request to the Oregon MUFON public: I am looking for people who have had alien abduction experiences in Oregon or the Pacific Northwest. I would like to tell your story in a published book. I am a MUFON Research Specialist and author of the upcoming book Evolutionary Ufology. I have confidence that my current publisher, Schiffer Books, would be very interested in such a volume. Proposed title would be either Oregon Alien Abductions or Alien Abductions in the Pacific Northwest. Total anonymity is assured unless otherwise desired. Please contact me, Jordan Hofer, at jordanhoferufo@gmail.com. Contact Jordan if you are interested in having your UFO abduction experiences documented. We need more people like Jordan doing this valuable work of documentation and we need more people to come forward to tell their stories. The more this happens, the more UFOs and alien abduction will come out of the closet. When more and more UFO-involved people step forward, the various establishment powers in our society will find it more and more difficult to behave as if nothing is happening.
UFO reported sightings are on the rise along with deserted around 300 three kick ago to an easily forgotten of 500 over the since engagement. Widespread UFO Network given away that they are receipt the most shape of claims of UFO sightings than always before from people in Canada and the U.S.

JAPANESE AIRLINES Migration 1628 UFO
Switching gears a bit from Arcturian week, we turn to the topic of UFOs as both designed by terrestrial humans and the possibility of them being both terrestrials and extra terrestrial.
In 2004 Seiko Epson Corp was revealed at a Japanese trade show to be the world's lightest and smallest Unmanned Ariel Vehicle (UAV). At least the world's smallest and lightest we have heard of. Personally, I recall stories from a former employee of a government defense contractor telling me a technology that allowed them to mount a tiny camera in what looked like a dragon fly (and this was one of the stories he could tell me). This Mirco UAV is designed to carry a micro camera for usage of reconnaissance and evaluation in dangerous areas.
That turns our attention to larger UAVs. These advanced aircraft could be mistaken for UFOs quite easily. It is estimated a large amount of UFO sightings belong to UAVs seen near military bases. This provides skeptics with a answer for all of the government cover ups.
These aircraft are often designed to fly very high and very fast to avoid enemy detection. Therefore at Arcturi, we deem it necessary for you to be able to spot the difference.
1. UAVs are known to be used for surveillance and stealth, if the object is seen at night emitting light it is either a plane or a possible genuine extra terrestrial UFO.
2. If the sighting is near a known military base the object could be some type of test vehicle not yet revealed to the public.
3. UAVs are typically smaller then extra terrestrial craft
4. If the object moves at speeds beyond comprehension to our physical environment or seemingly disappears in thin air it is unlikely to be a UAV.
